wow, how ironic, I have a business and can't find a decent employee to fill the spot.. I own a tree service, anyone know a good tree man with at least 5 years climbing experience and a CDL drivers license. that shows up for work every day.. it pays very well !!! not interested in training anyone. i'm in northwest new jersey if ya find someone...

Well, I wish my fiance was a tree guy then!

He will be arriving in 3 weeks. If you hear of anyone else hiring in North Jersey, for ANY job, please message me. He's worked physical and white collar jobs in the past. He is not a guy who is afraid to learn new things, or who shies away from hard work.

I've been applying for 6 months now. My temp job ends at the end of August, and I very much doubt that they will hire me as they don't seem to have anything for me to do as it is! I'm hoping sooo much that I will be hired where I volunteer. They've all said how impressed they are with me, they just don't have any positions right now.

I've been applying for retail jobs but they don't want to hire me either!!! I HAVE experience in retail.

I don't know if this is a good thing or not, but we are getting by ok on hubby's salary so it's not urgent that I get a job. That makes me want to wait it out until I get a job I actually want rather than taking the first thing I'm offered. On the one hand, I honestly think I'd rather stay home than work retail (done it, HATED it) or in a restaurant (ditto), but on the other hand I want my own money and to be able to save up to fix our house up.

I'm still applying for 3-10 jobs a day, and still nothing. I've sent out letters to companies saying I'll work for free in order to gain experience. I got REJECTED by a temp agency because I didn't have any office experience. That made me feel really good.

I don't think Dayton, Ohio is the best place for advertising/PR jobs, lol.

The job market and application process here sucks. It would be nice to get a letter saying "thanks, but no thanks" or at least state in the announcement "applicants selected for interview will be contacted within x days of submitting their application."

I just wanted to encourage everyone still applying and waiting. Its not easy transitioning to the US nor getting jobs in this economy. It took several months for my hubby to get his first job. We easily submitted over 50 applications. Not a single call or interview scheduled. My hubby has an Ethiopian name, but has always had an American sounding nickname. Over a month in he had 0 interviews. Then I was curious to know if using his nickname would give him more opportunities. So I used his nickname instead of his first name on his resume and submitted is resume for several positions. His phone rang off the hook the next week. He had 5 interviews scheduled in one week! I know this doesn't apply to everyone, but it may be worth using a nickname.

After some not so great experiences my hubby has a job he really likes. I remember how frustrated we both felt. Things will get better.

In tough economies such as this one, employers post openings for positions that DO NOT EXIST. Yes, they do it, so that their company name is out there, so it "looks" like they are expanding when everyone else is on the downturn. And yes, they'll go through interviews to get resumes in the door, for when they do really have a need, they'll have a ton of qualified people's resume at their fingertips.

So like how Ian is interviewing for a job, then a couple days later sees the position reposted; this is classically how they do it. Companies work with staffing agencies to get their company name out, post the position, collect tons of resumes, even interview candidates. Then when of course they decide not to hire, they say "no thanks" to everyone (staffing agency & candidates), and switch to a new staffing agency to start the cycle all over again. It doesn't cost the company anything if they don't hire a person, just labor to do interviews. So its free advertisement.

Some companies (my friends work at, so I know first hand) have "hiring freezes" in effect, yet online have open positions, and seems like they are growing & flourishing.

My advise is to be persistent, and collect business cards. If you don't get the position, maybe email the person to ask if there's something in your interviewing style that you can improve upon.

Good luck :star:

I didn't seem to have any problems finding a job in Louisiana.

I got my EAD on the tuesday, arranged an interview for a job on the thursday, I was offered the job on the friday and started on monday (The job was Senior Electronics Technician). Since then I've moved on from that job and got a job as a Design Engineer earning the equivalent salary that I got in England. I got this job by word-of-mouth. Overall I have found it very easy to find employment in my field (Engineering).

I know what you mean, we're about an hour outside Orlando and things in my field aren't looking too good. I mean there's a few jobs out there but why drive an hour in traffic for an extra +$1 or even -$1. I really hate how a lot of jobs here are not correctly listed. I've applied in the past for a few positions and the job "title" and the actual job where two totally different things.

Good luck with the job hunt, have you tried the city, county or state websites for jobs?

I applied for my EAD in mid-June so in the waiting phase. I've seen a really interesting-looking job and I'm wondering about contacting them and explaining that a) I am perfectly qualified for the position and B) I'm awaiting the arrival of my EAD and could start as soon as I get it. I'm thinking that even if they turn me down it would be good to show interest. But obviously I don't know for sure when my EAD will arrive so it's a bit up in the air. Does anyone have any advice or thoughts? This job really is what I'm looking for...

I have been looking for a job since I got here (May 08) and never had much luck. My husband said it would be easy to find a job because I have a bachelors degree, and did an internship here for 14 months. Well, now I feel I went to school for years for nothing, I work for a temp agency and don't need any brains to do this kind of work! They are even surprised about how good and quick I do the work, I just wanna tell them that I'm not stupid and did do something before I came here. Actually had a really good job which I miss terribly.

Now I'm looking into going back to school but also that gives a lot of trouble. Need to take whatever kind of entree tests and take at least 4 classes before being admitted for some decend program. And I better don't start on the fees they charge........ But if I become a nurse at least I will have no trouble finding a job (at least that is how it looks like now)

I've had the same problem here in NC. Some companies use some rather sneaky tactics to get people in to apply for jobs. I honestly don't want to work for a company that has to lie to get anyone interested in a job there :P

I would definitely send in a resume or application. You might still get your EAD in a few weeks, and most employers take a dog's age to sort thru applications and even bother to start interviewing! By the time they're ready to hire someone, you'll have your EAD!

divorced - April 2010 moved back to Ontario May 2010 and surrendered green card

PLEASE DO NOT PRIVATE MESSAGE ME OR EMAIL ME. I HAVE NO IDEA ABOUT CURRENT US IMMIGRATION PROCEDURES!!!!!

I agree.. where I work, last time they where hiring they had the job posted out for about a month before they had enough applications. They then worked through the applications and narrowed it down, by the time they where calling for interviews it was another month then another couple of weeks after that before they'd hire. I'm sure not everywhere is the same but... I'd give it a shot... nothing to lose and everything to gain!
