I really hate how a lot of jobs here are not correctly listed. I've applied in the past for a few positions and the job "title" and the actual job where two totally different things.

I've had the same problem here in NC. Some companies use some rather sneaky tactics to get people in to apply for jobs. I honestly don't want to work for a company that has to lie to get anyone interested in a job there :P

I know.. I can't believe they can get away it with it? I mean ok some where posted by a hr dept that hasn't a clue what they are posting and others are just a con. The only thing worse than the cons or the stupid hr depts is applying for a job I'm 100% qualified for with experience... then getting ignored for it..

My plan is to sit tight where I'm at (in a stupid office) for now. Once something better pops up I'll jump on it, only thing is there isn't anything popping up :crying: It could all be much worse I suppose I shouldn't complain, at least I have a job plenty of people out there still looking.

Good luck.

I have been looking for a job since I got here (May 08) and never had much luck. My husband said it would be easy to find a job because I have a bachelors degree, and did an internship here for 14 months. Well, now I feel I went to school for years for nothing, I work for a temp agency and don't need any brains to do this kind of work! They are even surprised about how good and quick I do the work, I just wanna tell them that I'm not stupid and did do something before I came here. Actually had a really good job which I miss terribly.

Now I'm looking into going back to school but also that gives a lot of trouble. Need to take whatever kind of entree tests and take at least 4 classes before being admitted for some decend program. And I better don't start on the fees they charge........ But if I become a nurse at least I will have no trouble finding a job (at least that is how it looks like now)

Letty

Letty, I know how you feel! I'm always being told at work that it's surprising that I can do things so quickly, like filing! My temp job is almost over and I am then going to apply for part time, temporary retail jobs, but the thing is, I went to college in the first place because my retail job made me want more from a career!

Hang in there, just think that at least you are making money, even if you're doing a job a monkey could do. And keep trying, something better will come along.

Aiden, I find that the jobs that say they are one thing and are actually another are always SALES jobs. I've accidentally applied for a few, even went for an interview to one. But going round people's houses and trying to sell insurance is not something I'm interested in. However when they advertise the job as "PR" or "Advertising" it is certainly confusing and annoying!

I would definitely send in a resume or application. You might still get your EAD in a few weeks, and most employers take a dog's age to sort thru applications and even bother to start interviewing! By the time they're ready to hire someone, you'll have your EAD!

I agree.. where I work, last time they where hiring they had the job posted out for about a month before they had enough applications. They then worked through the applications and narrowed it down, by the time they where calling for interviews it was another month then another couple of weeks after that before they'd hire. I'm sure not everywhere is the same but... I'd give it a shot... nothing to lose and everything to gain!

Thanks guys. I'm going to go through my resume again and then apply. I'm kinda nervous... I've been out of work for a while and the American job market seems like a scary place, but I do need to start earning ASAP!! I'll keep you posted with my progress :)

Good luck. You never know what will happen. I sent in application at the perfect time as somebody was leaving & they need to replace quickly. My experience just happened to be a good match for the position & got the job - and it is in a smaller city in Indiana & economy was not that great :D

Today was my fiance's last day of work. He's been officially unemployed for 1-1/2 hours.

Good, because it's one more step in the process. Bad, because I feel terrible that he had to leave a great job behind.

Aside from leaving family behind, it's the worst thing about it all. I feel like I should be apologizing or something. He tells me not to worry, that I am worth more than any old job. But I still feel guilty. Especially knowing it may be more difficult to find a new job than we anticipate once he gets here.

It sounds very dodgy to me, especially when they contact you and it is a phone sales position. If I were you I would try to do as much research on the company as possible.

That happened to me last week.... oddly enough, in NC  The job advertised was for "Office Clerical", and said in the description something like "Duties may include A/P, A/R, payroll, bank deposits, answering phone, filing..." etc. At the end of the interview, I asked him how much of it would be answering the phones, to which he admitted it would be the PRIMARY function. I said "Oh, so it's actually a receptionist position with other duties thrown in from time to time?" He asked "Why, are you not comfortable answering phones?" To which I politely replied "I did not apply for a receptionist position." His parting comment was "Ya, they should have written the ad differently." Ya think? Oh well.... have another interview on Wednesday. All we can do is keep trying!!!

I don't know why they do that, but it is rather annoying. At least the job I have now they were truthful about it. Except they didn't mention that I'd be bored out of my fron most days :P

I wouldn't take that sales job if it was offered to me at all.

I have been called back for a 2nd interview for a job that I am interested in for Tomorrow, so will see about that.

Also have another interview Thursday.

Its funny how ya apply for jobs and not hear anything and then all of a sudden everybody is calling and vieing for your time for an interview. What a weird place this is.

I got my EAD in December of 2005 and so, after six months of twiddling my thumbs, went job hunting. There are plenty of jobs in Schuylkill County, PA as long as you drive a truck or are in the nursing profession so I ended up working at Micky D's grilling da burgers. Back in the UK I had been a software tester for many years so I put my resume up on a bunch of job sites and hoped for the best. I left school before I even took O levels so only had a Cycling Proficiency Certificate and an Intermediate Swimming Certificate to show prospective employers. This meant that my resume had to be high on the 'wunderkid' quotient beings as my educational qualifications are almost in the minus column - actually I now have a GED so I am officially one step up from stupid.

Anyhow, an IT agent saw my resume online in March of 06, called me about a software testing temp position and I grabbed it. Got made permanent 3 months later and am now Software Test team leader with this company.

I have been very, very, lucky but if I had to do it all again I would definitely use the online medium. I think that chasing jobs, especially in the current climate, is going to be pretty soul destroying. if you have the kind of skills that you know are in demand, go online and wait to be contacted. Meantime, swallow your pride and go down to Micky D's or Burger King and work for $6 or $7 an hour. It may not be much but it is a job and you actually will feel like you're making progress and that definitely helps.

Good luck to all of you trying to find work.
