Could Heath Ledger actually win an oscar for this, although he is dead?

It will be the first, they are definately entertaining the idea.

Actually he'd be the second. I just read it somewhere...another actor won an oscar posthumously.

I second that - total departure from what you would expect from this kind of movie. All of the characters tie into a central theme - and there's none of the narrative window-dressing that you used to see in the old Batman movies. Its also very unpredictable and you're left guessing what's going to happen all the way to the end.

Heath Ledger is very very good - its a shame its his epitaph, he'd only just come out of pretty-boy obscurity and if he'd lived he would have probably been a very good character actor.

I can't believe it got the PG13 rating - though I'm well used to seeing parents taking even very young kids into movies that are clearly not appropriate for them. You really don't want to take anyone under 10 to see this.

Hubby & I are going to our local drive-in tonight to see a double feature Dark Knight and Hancock.

Woohoo can't wait!!!! :jest:

Review:

It was Fantastic.

Heath Ledger's (r.i.p) interpretation of the Joker is the BEST Joker hands down. The Joker he is clearly one of the

sickest villains out there.Every scene was crafted so well I bet this will be the biggest opening in U.S. box office

history. It is sad when someone dies, especially when they are so young and have so much to look forward to in

the world. Heath Ledger was a very talented person and he was a amazing actor.

Christian Bale is growing on me he was amazing in black hawk down and as Batman.I know he will be awesome in

"Terminator Salvation: The Future Begins."

So happy Maggie Gyllenhaal replaced Katie holmes for the role as "Rachel" Maggie she was an excellent addition to this film.

Overall ~ I plan on purchasing Dark Knight when it goes to DVD.

I watched it last night...it was very disturbing but also very good. Heath Ledger deserves an Oscar, IMO. Excellent performances also from Christian Bale, Morgan Freeman and Gary Oldman. There was a lot of complexity to the story and characters that I have not seen in other comic book hero movies...I'd say probably the best one I've seen. :)

Awesome movie. We were going to go see Hell Boy but the Dark Knight happened to be starting sooner so we went for that instead. Glad I did, and I agree, dead or not Heath should get an Oscar for his part. The best Joker ever. Sorry Jack.

I want to see this movie too, they lost me after the first two Batman movies. But I am interested in seeing this one, it looks watachable from the trailers.

The latest two Batman movies (Batman Begins and The Dark Knight) have nothing to do with the previous several (Batman, Batman Returns, Batman and Robin, Batman Forever). But The Dark Knight is a sequel to Batman Begins and I don't know if it would make any sense if you haven't seen Batman Begins. Batman Begins was really good and The Dark Knight is supposed to be even better. (BTW I didn't like Batman or Batman Returns and I didn't see Batman and Robin or Batman Forever, either.)

It wasn't just Ledger's performance - the screenplay gave him a lot to work with. In fact there was nothing in it that was redundant or superficial.

Usually in superhero movies the villain is pretty one dimensional - usually either after money or just plain crazy (which is usually an excuse for illogical behaviour or continuity errors) and are shoehorned into the script without any regard any thematic elements that the story should convey. The Joker in this certainly was crazy - but he had an ideology which set him apart and made pretty much everything he did make sense, especially after you hear Alfred's speech about

"some men just wanting to see the world burn"

. It also made sense in relation to Harvey Dent's character development

and transformation into Two-Face. The ending is amazing when you realise that the Joker's whole plan was to corrupt Dent.

There was a standing ovation

...when Gary Oldman came back from the dead.
