So I rather unexpectedly have my IR-1 interview next week. I was wondering how closely the embassy look at relationship evidence and ask relationship questions for couples that are married for many years and have lived together abroad? In our case we have been married and lived together here in Ireland for more than 3 years. I have read the guides, and I can answer all those questions anyway, and I also have some photos, birth certs for the kids, joint bills etc- I am not worried that I won't pass, I am just wondering if they even bother checking that the relationship is bonafide at the interview when couples have been living together for years.

I would say it depends on the consulate and the evidence provided.

We were both living in Canada (now in the U.S.) - we have been married for 8 years. Interviewed at Montreal, my Husband wasn't asked any 'relationship' questions at all, nor asked to provide any proof. They were more interested in seeing my tax returns for the last few years.

On the other hand, another Canada forum member noted (his brother was sponsoring his parents from Canada to the U.S.) - that the CO did indeed ask relationship questions (the couple have been married for many many years) - ie: how did you meet.

Anyway, it's a case by case thing I guess and good luck with your interview
