travel day after green card interview

My husband and I have been trying to find at least a week or two of time to travel to visit his family in Mexico this summer. However, we just got his interview appointment for the greencard (June 29..earlier than we were planning) and it might end up that the only possible travel dates until Christmas time are June 30-July 9. We will be interviewing in Minnesota and it looks like from what I read that they don't usually stamp the passport although someone posted about an officer suggesting to use an infopass appointment to get a stamp. Has anyone had any similar experiences with such a situation?

I think you can go on the stamp, but not all CIS offices will give this at the interview in fact most don't, there is no guarantee. I think you would be safer to wait for your greencard and that can take 2-4 weeks to arrive after the interview.

you can always ask for the stamp and do you still have the AP?

They don't give the I-551 stamp at the AOS interview anymore at most local offices because the GC is processed so quickly now, so I wouldn't count on being able to travel the day after your GC interview. If you have AP, you can travel with that.

Yes, he has an AP, I just didn't think he could travel on that after the interview.

Yes you are right, they often take the AP docs at the interview, but if you explain you might be able to keep them.

I think the main message you need to hear is there are no guarantees and booking flights etc would be risky.

I would do it... I would explain, they should be human and understand you. You should be able to go. I know how it is with the days off... Not too often do you have a chance to take them!!!

You're either approved at the office or not (pending name checks etc). If you are approved, tell the officer that you have int'l travel plans the next day and can you pleeeease have the passport stamped. Then pray and hope your tickets are changeable.

If no approval, you can still travel on the AP (and the officer won't take it away if you are not approved).
