I've spent most of my short career working for employers that had training freezes in effect. To me, it's just normal :P

:whistle: hmmmm.....and are these past companies still functioning ?

Each and every one of them. They're doing very well, too.

well, no training for the IT folks..i am sure they are on the cutting edge of technology development there

Peace to All creatures great and small............................................

But when we turn to the Hebrew literature, we do not find such jokes about the donkey. Rather the animal is known for its strength and its loyalty to its master (Genesis 49:14; Numbers 22:30).

Whenever we need something "cutting edge", we get a consultant to come in who does the work while our team members work with him and learn. On the job training.

AS, I think you, TracyTN and I should form a small corporation wherein we train people to surf the web from work.....we can call the company AriJoTN...

We could offer the course (on DVD) to the public via late-nite infomercials....for the low low price of $19.95. If they order within the next five minutes, we could send them a ch*pf*ck.....whatever that is....

Yeah that happens in a lot of places. I have a friend who was notified of his RIF effective immediately by email. Shortly before he read the email, his boss told him to check his email at 10AM for an important communication. Rat bastards couldn't say it to his face.

I couldn't believe the way my school admin chose not to hire someone back for next year. They called her into the principal's office for a meeting about her 'status' so she knew what was up. Inside, the principal handed her a copy of her review, at the bottom of the form you either check the box 'recommend for reappointment' or 'do not recommend for reappointment.' He had checked the do not recommend box, but didn't say a word about it, just 'i need you to sign this. any questions?' And I know most people want notice, but they did this in the middle of the schoolday on a wednesday months before the end of the year. I lost a lot of respect for the principal after hearing the details!

And back to the original subject - AS - I say go for it, I think you will have favorable results, but even if you don't, you sound ready to move on so it would be all good!

"I'd like to train someone on what I do. I realize there's a training freeze but it is important to me that someone get trained on my skillset, and I'd be willing to provide that training myself if necessary. I'm ready to move on, either here or at another company, but before I do it I'd like to know my customers will have the support they need after I do."

Yeah right. LOL

Why not?

If I'm leaving my job I couldn't a flying #### what happens once I'm gone.

I've done this once. Got a grin back. I guess boss didn't take me seriously. I always am in these matters. Turned in my resignation three weeks later. Never trained a soul and the company ended up losing the account (upwards of $2,000,000.00 - staff of 26 attached to it). Their bad. Not mine.

Some companies are like that - you tell them about a possible or impending disaster and they do nothing about it until the very last minute.

At my current job (started last week) the person doing it before me gave 3 weeks notice, and they decide to bring someone in 3 days before she leaves....?

That's nice... a bit like one of DH's former employers who assured everyone that their jobs were secure, and then met DH in the carpark when he pulled into work a few days later and said 'don't bother to get out of the car'...

Where I have always worked we changed bosses more often than we changed toner cartridges. So I am usually training the boss and not very much the co-worker.
