Maybe a little off topic, but my wife has no desire to immigrate to the USA and I will be moving to Thailand as soon as I finish work, a bit over a year. We would however like for her to be able to visit for a month or two. It is my understanding that even if married to a US national it is next to impossible for a Thai to get a tourist visa. Is there any way short of doing the whole spouse visa application for us?

Thanks

Sorry, just noticed that there was already a topic on this same subject. Doesn't offer much hope.

only way to know is to risk $131 and apply... build the strong ties to home along with the plans for you to relocate to thailand and see what happens. You will never know until you try

YMMV

Note:

Please fill out I-130, wait 6 months for approval, then 3 more months for an interview. (Unless of course we've bombed your country into the stone age, then you qualify for expedited processing.)

Welcome to the USA!!!

Your spouse has to qualify herself by having enough ties that will compel her return to Thailand after a short visit. Employment, a house or lease, money in the bank, land title, school, ...etc all are good proofs.

There is this crazy US immigration law that assumes everyone has immigration intent unless proven otherwise, and being married to a US citizen unfortunately immediately flagged as one with immigration intent, doesn't matter whether she has no intention to immigrate (yet).

A invitation letter from your parents may help, but ultimately she has to qualify herself.

If you get an invitation letter for her from your parents, make sure they strongly acknowledge that she has to return to Thailand (as in, we will see her to the plane if necessary). I regret that we didn't do that.
