I am about to send my AOS to Chicago. I would love to have a job immediately after I receive EAD. Since I live very close to disneyland, I am interested in applying there.

I wonder how everyone did job hunting. Did you start doing job hunting right after EAD? or before EAD was approved? Any advice? I understand that people like me who are from different countries have a lot of difficulties and barriers to do job hunting. It will be very nice if you guys give me some advice.

In this economy, job hunting is kinda tough unless you are willing to work for very low wages to start. You will probably get your EAD about two months after you submit your application. If you already have your Social Security number, that's a good start...SS is not issuing cards without an EAD for some categories of immigrants. If you don't have an SSN, then allow another 10-15 days to get one after your EAD arrives. That means you might start making job contacts sometime in September, but no one can hire you legally without both your EAD and SSN. Unless you have specific skills to offer Disneyland, I'd suggest waiting until mid-September. Any earlier, your application gets lost in the shuffle with most large employers.

Started looking and applying for jobs once I received my EA Card. It's been two weeks now and still looking. There's so many out there but I just don't have the work experience they need since so many things happened in the past few years that I didn't get to or didn't need to work  Maybe I am just choosy. Anyhoo, I'm still patiently looking.

Good luck to you on your AOS journey and job hunting.

Hi, I started looking for job 3 days before my GC appointment and 3 weeks after having received my work permit. I just looked on Temporary job agencies website requiring my specific skills (ie what I could bring to this country)...mostly my language and my foreign education. I got an interview one day after starting my search and started working next day after my GC interview-(bottom line it took me less than 4 days to get a job and a good one!)- my advice- look for jobs requiring your specific qualities (languague skills-specific foreign education)- target the temporary jobs first- it is always a great way to start putting stg on your resume and making it valuable here in the US+ stimes they pay better and you never know they might hire you for good at the end. Good luck

I got a BA, but I totally do not have enough experience. Like for one year and half, I was a shift manager in Japan. But, that does not really be counted as a working experience in the US. So I pretty much do not have any.

The thing is that I live in OC, California. So there are many kinds of jobs are here like disneyland, a lot of department stores. I prefer to work at disneyland due to their benefits, but the worst case, I will try to get some sales associate jobs at nordstrom or macy's. I know they might not pay me the best, BUT, I cannot stand it living with my mother in law forever. This makes me go insanely crazy.

I started applying for jobs, the day I got an email from USICS that my EAD Card is on its way to my mailbox. After I got my card, I applied for SSN. Take note - you do not have to wait for the actual card to know your number. It takes only a night for SSA to process your number. So basically, the next day, we went back to SSA and requested for a letter certification of my new SSN.

It took me 1 1/2 mos. to get a job at Target as Price Accuracy Team Member (even if I have MBA units..that's how desperate I was). However, I did not stop looking for other job (that i like) online. After 3 paychecks, I found a job again with a multi-national company. This time - it's the job that I want (nature and pay). I just applied online. In Florida, we have this called www.EmployFlorida.Com, a government run website for job hunters. It also helps that I have a local job reference (Target) before I got the second job. Al I can say - do not be choosy in looking for your first job, unless if you are that qualified. A little patience and sacrifice will not hurt.

Thank you so much for your advice. I know, I should not be choosy. I am sooo desparate. I am living with my mother in law and renting this crazy expensive home in OC. As you know, it is freaking expensive to live in OC, CA. It is insane. But, if my husband and I work a lot with no child, we are able to buy a small condo. I am excited to get a job. I do not care what it is. I am just happy that I do not have to stay at home with no money.
