First off, thank you all! I wasnt expecting much of a response, i just really wanted to get all of that off of my chest.

first off, im the USC, my husband got his greencard back in sept. He's a mechanic (and a pretty damn good one if you ask me) but because he has only been here about two years, and at his current job for about a year, he's not considered to have enough experience to get a really good job (even though he's been working on all types of cars since well before he could legally drive them). He had interviews at larger dealerships like Toyota and even Midas, but he would ultimately get paid less than what he makes now because they probably wont let him work more than 40 hours.

We did look into contacting the labor department about the overtime thing, but ultimately my husband decided against it because he would have to give his own information, which he didnt want to do cause his boss would probably fire him.

Ironically, we make way too much money to qualify for Badgercare or Medicaid, although i still want to try for it, if nothing else we might be able to get some kind of coverage and get a deductible. But, to be able to apply for it, you need to include a letter from a doctor stating that you are pregnant, which i have not gone to do yet...and Sharon, i did not think of going to the Health department, so i will give that a try, first ive gotta find it...... :P

Hey, and if anyone wants to buy a violin....mint condition, hardly used!! (i figured why pay to post stuff on ebay when ive got a free site here...... :P )

Thanks again everyone!

I aint cool enough for a signature.....

Sharon mentioned it and go to the health department. You can apply for WIC and get some milk, eggs and such until the baby is born and then qualify for formulas and juice if your income meets standards for some time.

Also, contact a community hospital. You can usually make arrangements with them for the delivery if you have no insurance coverage.

Good luck and wishing you all the best.

Mary

I remember reading somewhere on one of my multiple email groups (arg, belong to too many, can't find the exact post), that when you're pregnant, the max income level for Medicaid goes waaaaaaay up, so even if you don't qualify normally, you'd qualify when pregnant. In any case, it never hurts to do a little investigating

It's amazing what changes people will make when they really need to. It might pan out to be a really good job, and it doesn't have to be forever.

That is definately the plan! I have Friday afternoons off, so i think i just might trek down to the health department (i looked it up, so i know where it is now....duh, and i knew where it was too!) and like i said too, even if they only can cover part of it, thats better than nothing!

I just meant that he might not be able to work on tractors, not his forte.....although he did mention last night that he would wash dishes in a restaurant if he had to, which is definately NOT his forte.....

trust me. any 'car guy' could build a tractor. it's in his blood to take apart and put stuff together.

Well, if you need emergency money you can always go to a PawnShop too! Take something you don't use that much (like that violin you mentioned, jewlery.... just about anything really) and they'll give you money for it. Then if/when you want your stuff back you just have to give them the money they gave you for it.

Make sure you ask for how long they'll keep what they're buying from you. So that you know until when you'll have the chance to get your stuff back. :star:

Good luck!!

I would recommend not pawning anything until push really, really comes to shove! They often give you cents on the dollar. I know someone who pawned a $4000 ring for $80. (Needless to say, she and my friend are no longer engaged!)

You've had some good suggestions here. I'd add the Catholic Charities organisation, but that's all I've got.

I wish you the best of luck.

Well the OP mentioned she had only $50 to buy lunch, grocery, gas..... she is in an extreme situation as far as I can tell. And that is the only reason I sugested a Pawn Shop.

My fiance got $400 on his $1000 amp. It wasn't much but if that's the only thing you have, and if you really need it, than I don't think it's a terrible idea.

But it's only my opinion :star:
