OK filled out the I-864 and will soon be ready to send that off. On the letter it mentions we need to return a DS-230 (download from internet I assume). Can this be done now or do I have to wait for them to tell me when to send it? Also, is this the form where I send in the police certificate?

One more thing.....can I send the DS-230 off together with the I-864?

The DS-230 is generated by the NVC once they receive payment for the IV Bill. If you sent this payment already, you have to wait for them to generate the DS-230. If you haven't received the bill, see if you can get your IIN from them and check it online and see if you can pay it there. Two days after you make the payment online, you can print out the DS-230 coversheet that you have to send with the DS-230.

The DS-230 itself can be downloaded from this link DS-230 and make sure you start collecting the civil documents you will need to send with it. You can check that info out here: DOS link

Once that is generated you can download it and send it in but you might want to get all the info for that form such as Certified marriage certificate, birth certificate, police record,copy of biographical page of passport and if neccessary the following: military record and divorce decrees. It would not hurt to download the form and sent ahead of time to your spouse and have him or her fill it out and send it back to you then once it is generated you will mail it out. you can send them the same time. but u have to wait for the ds230 to be generated.. you have to make a payment for you ds230 then u can send them both to nvc goodluck

Can I send copies of marriage cert/decree absolute etc if so, do they need to be certified/notarised? I think when I sent all of this in with I-130 paperwork they didn't have to be certified.

No, the DS-230 does not need to be notarized, but it does need to be the original, so no he cannot send it to you by fax. But you can get it fillid out and signed by him the next time you are together. Or do it by mail now, so you are prepared.

I am planning on seeing him in a couple of months insha'allah so I am getting all things that require his signature together now. I also wonder if anyone would know... he has lived in Spain now for 2 weeks.... and it says that I should have his police documents ready prior to interview would that also require the one from Spain?? by the time I see him it will be months that he lived there but nowhere near a year.
