Naxal-affected states have witnessed more incidents of terrorist violence than Jammu and Kashmir in the last four months, the government said in Parliament on Tuesday.

There have been as many as 550 incidents of terrorist violence in the naxal-affected states as compared to Jammu and Kashmir where 466 terrorist acts have taken place till April 30, Minister of State for Home Sriprakash Jaiswal said in reply to a written question in Lok Sabha.

As many as 281 persons, both civilians and security force personnel, have died in the naxal-related incidents while in Jammu and Kashmir, 141 persons died in terrorist acts, he said.

Among the outfits responsible for these incidents were mainly Pakistan-based terrorist groups such as Lashkar-e-Tayiba, Jaish-e-Mohammad and their associate outfits and offshoots, Hizbul Mujahideen, Babbar Khalsa International and United Liberation Front of Asom and Communist Party of India (Maoist).

In the Northeast, there have been 419 incidents of violence in which 116 persons have died, the Minister said, adding that with respect to Jammu and Kashmir, North-East and naxal-affected states, the Central government reimburses the ex-gratia payment, as per the prescribed norms under the Security Related Expenditure schemes.

Naxal affected states include Andhra Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Orissa, Maharashtra, Jharkhand, Chhatisgarh and Bihar.
