im not familiar with the adjustment of status yet....pls correct me if im wrong.

once the adjustment of status is done, (the greencard will be given?), i am allowed to go back to the philippines right? it takes around 5 months i guess?

im also planning to apply for permit to travel with the aos, just to be safe.

the thing is, im going to US this sept, get married, apply for aos probably october... then im coming back to the philippines for my church wedding on july/aug 2009. do you think that's enough time to fix aos and everything?

another question, how long can i stay in the philippines with my permit to travel/ greencard? will i be allowed to be out of US for 2 months?

im asking because i have to book my church and reception at least a year before the wedding. that's what the church suggested.

thanks! hope to hear from u!

GC takes 3-4 mos as well as AP.Applying for AP if only you want to travel outside the country while your GC is still on process. They can only expedite the processing of your AP if it's a matter of death.Im speaking based on our experience. If you are going to travel abroad and believe you may be gone a year or more you should apply for a reentry permit before you leave .Goodluck on your journey

oh..im just planning to stay in the Philippines for 2 months... and it will still be in august of next year. so no need to apply for permit to travel and reentry permit then? because most probably i'll have my gc by that time. is that right?

thanks again for your reply. it's really helpful! :)

ohh really!well it was based on my experience.I applied for GC last August 3, 2007 and received it last November 21 2007.I also went to USCIS at Chula Vista san diego coz we follow-up my AP but the officer told me that GC and AP "normally" takes 3-4 mos.

You can apply for Advance Parole if you need to travel back to the PI before you have completed your AOS and received your Green Card.

An Advance Parole (AP) document is issued by the United States Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) and provides a non US resident alien permission to temporarily leave and re-enter the United States without a visa while their Permanent Residency application is pending. Failure to properly use an AP when departing the US can result in a technical "abandoning" of an alien's Permanent Residency application and further result in the denial of re-entry into the United States.

A valid reason to obtain an AP can be for leisure, visiting family, business and countless others. Because there is processing required in issuing an AP it is advisable to apply far ahead of when you plan to travel. As of late 2007 AP's were taking up to 100 days to be issued. In an emergency a person my go to a local USCIS office and request an AP to be issued (proof of the emergency must be shown).

If an applicant has not yet filed an I-131 and needs an expedited Advance Parole document, the I-131 may be filed in person at the local Field Office after an InfoPass appointment has been made. IMPORTANT: Note that expedited processing is done at the discretion of the Field Office, based upon the evidence provided by the applicant.
