I've been thinking of trying to get a job for NYC city government in the next few years...they pay well and the benefits are tremendous. The only drawback is the commute.

Would the increase in pay allow you to live any closer?

its a good sign I think.... he was worried that they would lay him off because work is going to slow down in a few months but if they have him doing service calls he could still get decent hours...

Yes, but the closer I get the more I erase the effect of the pay increase.

I guess it doesn't get cold enough there Marilyn for fixing heaters or anything during the cooler months? Here heat is not needed a lot but with the elderly population if their heater breaks on a random cold night, a lot of service calls go out for that. But here it's mostly all central A/C and heat(electric, not gas, all adjusted on the same box). I don't know what it is in your area.

yeah it doesn't get cold enough here... and where hubby works they main;y do commercial buildings like banks etc...

hubby mentioned something about taking an appliance repair course though
