Late I-551 stamp OK?

Ok guys,

Help me out here.

My I-551 is getting expired next week

and I think I am in a fix right now because

there is no infoPass appointment available before it expires.

Would that be a crime if I do not get another stamp before the present stamp expired?

Would the immigration officer turn me back if he/she notice my I-551 had expired?

I am also in a fix with my driver's license cos my state will not renew my license until I renew my I-551.

Thanks for the response guys!

No, there shouldn't be a problem with the stamp expiring unless you get asked for proof of your legal status in the US. You application is still pending even if the stamp has expired. The stamp is proof of your status - it doesn't give you status. Of greater concern is your driver's license. You don't want to risk driving until you get your license renewed.

Good luck and hope everything goes smoothly at your appointment. I can't imagine why they would have any hesitation with the new stamp but you can certainly use your DL renewal as a valid reason to have the stamp.

“...Isn't it splendid to think of all the things there are to find out about? It just makes me feel glad to be alive--it's such an interesting world. It wouldn't be half so interesting if we knew all about everything, would it? There'd be no scope for imagination then, would there?”

You should be fine getting I=551. I am not sure about Oklahoma, but here in PA I would also get 30day extention for DL from AAA or other notary service/messenger service (DMV web list companies which has a right to extend DL for 30days). Otherwise, if I am not mistaken here in PA, we might need to re-take exam for DL if not reniewed on time.

You are correct, many states (including GA) they won't renew or do any changes to your DL unless they check your current status with "something". But they are in "need" to see an expiration date...so what can I say? but well just check every 30min the infopass. I noticed that there are people that cancel appointments (like me! I don't need a new stamp...I was all confuse).

They won't turn you back...they just give you a new stamp. And you should do it as soon as possible. Things are getting tougher out there.

I'm surprised that you can't get an INFOPASS appt before it expires in Oklahoma. They are not a busy office and almost always have available appointments. We needed an I-551 stamp last a little over a week ago and were able to make a next-day appt. When the available dates/times came up for the online INFOPASS, there were many appointments available for every day--including the very next day.
