Hi everyone,

I have a bit of a problem. We are missing the Certificado de Antecedentes Judiciales, it's in Peru and we received the paperwork to send in the DS-230 yesterday. I called the Visa Center and they said that we will need the original before the case can be completed. I'm not sure what to do.

Should I send everything we have now with a letter stating that we will have the original paperwork at the interview?

Should I wait the two weeks until the certificate arrives?

I don't know what to do. The certificate was supposed to come in with a friend but they have managed to lose it at the airport!

If I can get a scanned copy of the document I know i can get it signed by the Peruvian consulate here, should I go that route?

Sometimes it feels like Cesar is never going to be here...

Thanks for your help!

Hi Eva,

You're amost there, hang in there. As for the Certificado, are you on the CR1 route? If so, the NVC requires all the paperwork before they will schedule your interview in Peru. As for a scanned copy, I'm not sure if they would accept that. You may want to email NVC and ask them. They usually respond in a couple of days to emails last time I did this. If they say no, I would just wait for the original.

Good Luck!!!!

I'm assuming you're going for a CR1/IR1 visa since you're asking your question in this forum. You will need the actual Certificado de Antecedentes Judiciales or the NVC won't complete your case and won't make your appointment with the embassy. If you send the DS-230 without it or with a photocopy of it, you will receive an RFE requesting the original and that will delay your case even further. Just tell your spouse to get another one and wait for it so you can send it with the DS-230 because like I said, they won't complete your case without it and it'll just sit there until you send it.
