hi everyone

well... i sent out resume to a lot of places, lot of companies, even the smallest stores were i saw any "now hiring" signs but nothing...

i don't know.. maybe they look at my resume and they see i'm not a US citizen, maybe they don't trust, maybe they're just tired to hire someone even just to clean the toilettes...

Any experience to share? What you did to try to find a job? i'm persevering, i always want to meet the HR manager, it seems i can get an interview but.. nothing..

I'm almost there to get my driving license, i already passed the written test i just need to take the practice one this coming monday, maybe it can me one more helpful document to get a job?

Even Wal-Mart rejected me, they said that i didn't pass the test online...

i also have to say i don't have a car, we live in an area bad-served with buses and my wife works far away, overnight, it takes almost one hour just for the travel to get there and to get home in the morning.

i know it sounds stupid but it feels like there's almost no light at the end, by one side i see rejection in hiring someone not from this country, by another side i feel myself in chain because i can't be really flexible with the hours and shifts, which blocks me pretty much for being available to work in many different shifts, schedule, hours and bla bla....

any suggestions people, please?

thank you everyone again, at least this website allows the people to share experiences, ask, answer, suggest... it's a blessing for a newbie like me :)

When I first came here it was very hard for me to just do anything.. so I understand how you feel. I did have a job though, because I came in the US on a work visa.

My suggestion is, don't give up. I'm sure the driver's license will help a little.

Hang in there.. the most important thing is that you're with Shannon, the rest will come

Well, my first question is, are you authorized to work? I note from your signature timeline that you arrived in the US, and got a SSN but not if you got employment autorization? Have you applied for and got your EAD? You can't work unless you have employment authorization. If you got a 90 day work authorization from your POE, it's only good for 90 days. Make sure you apply for your EAD ASAP. If you haven't already, you're not going to get it before your 90 days is up anyway, so use this time to look at what type of job you'd like to get, and what might be the requirements.

If all the above is false, and you have applied for and received your EAD...please fill in your timeline!

All the best in your job search.

I got the stamp at the JFK, it allows me 90 days, is in my timeline, in the POE informations.

Anyway thank you all, i can see that it's not so hard for me only, everyone had a little hard time to get completely in... thank you guys :)

i quote Rosie74: you're right, here's Shanny.. she's my light, i dunno what i would do without her support, her presence... :)

Hello,

Can you imagine the head of a employers who don't know all the immigrations rules and know that you can work only for 3 months- until august.

His first question is what can happen after? - maybe they rejected you because they are doubts.

So don't be discouraged, send the AOS forms To USCIS, wait for the EAD.

Even if the I-94 gives you the rights to work for 3 months, the problem is to convince an employer.

It's writtten also on the SS card that you are able to work with a immigration document, employers are simple and the most part of time prefer simple things.

Good luck for your future

Ciao Marco, I'm also from Italy, and waiting for our petition to be approved. I see that we'll be neighbours too, since my fiancé lives in Alexandria, Virginia... Anyway, the others are right - with only a temporary EAD, no one will employ you, because they know you'll have to resign soon before you get the other, permanent EAD. When you get that (you file for it together with AOS and Advance Parole), then you can start to look for work in earnest.

From what I know, it may be a while before you find something, because the economy is not in the best of shapes. However, I have also seen everyone has found something after a while... If you want, drop me a PM, so we can talk in Italian. In the meantime, all the best for you and Shannon, and lots of happiness!
