When I think of "Simpler, More Innocent Times", I think of Little House on the Prairie, not 1990. Simpler as in less complicated, not as in life was easier, cuz we know that ain't true.

Let's see.... in 1990 I was 22 and I died. In 1991 I moved to Wyoming. 1995 I moved back to Indiana. 1996 I moved to Denver and bought my first mountain bike. 1997 I moved back to Indiana. Etc, etc. Not really simple or innocent.

On a tenuously related note, this is a maudlin week for me.... I turn 40 on Saturday. Not looking forward to that at all.

All jokes aside I have to admit the 90's where quite colourful at times to say the least, at least the part of the world where I grew up. I was only 10 in 1990, started my first job in 1996 with the backdrop of that being the upsurge (the last flings) in the conflict back home. I really hadn't a clue back then what to do with myself!!

I suppose it was simpler in that not everyone and their mother had cell phones...the iPod didn't exist, most people still watched movies on VHS format, gas was under $2, not many people had internet and those who did - had dial-up. Osama Bin Laden was not a household name and you could go through export security without taking off your shoes.

I remember when I started working and the olds would wax lyrical about "what is was like before the fax machine." I now find myself doing that about the internet.

If you watch Resevoir Dogs any time in the near future pay close attention to the size of Chris Penn's cell phone.

We're currently watching our way through the X-Files DVDs...the earlier series have Mulder and Scully using phones that could only be described as bricks.

My house is worth twice as much a few yrs ago it wa worth 3 times as much. corn still is knee high by fourth of July. and its a good season for tomaatos. Doug is still my neighbor. My large deck still holding up, built in 1992. had to stain it though last yr. that took some work

Is it just semantics or if someone dies, doesn't that mean, you know, they don't rise again? And if they 'almost' die - they can have gone through various stages of the dying process but be pulled back from the brink and into life again?

Whichever it is, it's of course dramatic - presumably there was no oxygen deprivation because this heart stopping moment was accompanied by some kind of artificial breathing technique?

Well, you are dead once your heart stops. You are obviously not "officially" dead until a doctor calls it and notes the time. It also depends on circumstances of how your brain will be affected without artificial respiration if you are to "come back to life".

For example, cold etc.

Ah yes, the pre-cell phone age; ages spent waiting outside in the rain for friends not knowing when they'd arrive, not being able to move from that spot in case they came along right then.

As another young 'un the 90s was mainly about school for me. I have, in fact, forgotten most of what happened in the 90s. High school sucked, top of the pops was banned in the house so I never knew what to listen to to fit in with the cooler kids (however I am pretty familiar with late 70s/80s music thanks to my dad), I read an awful lot, and I was oblivious to fashion. Sixth form college rocked, though! I think the only major effect the 90s had on me was to introduce me to the PC.
