On the drive home today, the DJ on this radio station I was listening to did an introduction to an hour of "90s music". He described the 90s as "not too long ago", but a "simpler, more innocent time".

As someone who turned 15 in 1990, that description of the 1990s struck me as odd. I never thought of the 90s as either simple or innocent.

In fact, the description of the 90s as simple and innocent reminded me of people much older than I, who, over the last 33 years of my life have described the 60s and the 70s as either simple or innocent, or some variation of those themes.

I don't believe I've ever heard anyone describe the 80s that way.

So what do you think - were the 90s a more simple and more innocent time?

No.But the 70's were.

May 7,2007-USCIS received I-129f
July 24,2007-NOA1 was received
April 21,2008-K-1 visa denied.
June 3,2008-waiver filed at US Consalate in Panama
The interview went well, they told him it will take another 6 months for them to adjudicate the waiver
March 3,2009-US Consulate claims they have no record of our December visit, nor Manuel's interview
March 27,2009-Manuel returned to the consulate for another interrogation(because they forgot about December's interview),and they were really rude !
April 3,2009-US Counsalate asks for more court documents that no longer exist !
June 1,2009-Manuel and I go back to the US consalate AGAIN to give them a letter from the court in Colon along with documents I already gave them last year.I was surprised to see they had two thick files for his case !

June 15,2010-They called Manuel in to take his fingerprints again, still no decision on his case!
June 22,2010-WAIVER APPROVED at 5:00pm
July 19,2010-VISA IN MANUELITO'S HAND at 3:15pm!
July 25,2010-Manuelito arrives at 9:35pm at Logan Intn'l Airport,Boston,MA
August 5,2010-FINALLY MARRIED!!!!!!!!!!!!
August 23,2010-Filed for AOS at the International Institute of RI $1400!

My teenage years straddled the late 80s to mid-90s but I love the 80s more. Something about that period makes me smile - hair metal bands, Madonna, Michael Jackson, the Brat Pack, Sixteen Candles, Breakfast Club... I love the 80s more. Edited by warriorprincess

Life is so strange but it sure keeps you on your toes!!!

When I think of "Simpler, More Innocent Times", I think of Little House on the Prairie, not 1990. Simpler as in less complicated, not as in life was easier, cuz we know that ain't true.

Let's see.... in 1990 I was 22 and I died. In 1991 I moved to Wyoming. 1995 I moved back to Indiana. 1996 I moved to Denver and bought my first mountain bike. 1997 I moved back to Indiana. Etc, etc. Not really simple or innocent.

On a tenuously related note, this is a maudlin week for me.... I turn 40 on Saturday. Not looking forward to that at all.

Lady, people aren't chocolates. Do you know what they are mostly? Bastards. ####### coated bastards with ####### filling. But I don't find them half as annoying as I find naive bobble-headed optimists who walk around vomiting sunshine.
