Thinking back to a simpler time, a more innocent time

On the drive home today, the DJ on this radio station I was listening to did an introduction to an hour of "90s music". He described the 90s as "not too long ago", but a "simpler, more innocent time".

As someone who turned 15 in 1990, that description of the 1990s struck me as odd. I never thought of the 90s as either simple or innocent.

In fact, the description of the 90s as simple and innocent reminded me of people much older than I, who, over the last 33 years of my life have described the 60s and the 70s as either simple or innocent, or some variation of those themes.

I don't believe I've ever heard anyone describe the 80s that way.

So what do you think - were the 90s a more simple and more innocent time?

Nostalgia isn't what it used to be.

Actually, I graduated from college in 1993 when the economy was in the $hitter, the sky was falling and no one from my generation was supposed to ever be able to own their own house or make more money than their parents. God, if I had only bought my apartment back then and sold it 2 years ago.

Amazing, later on that same decade we all had multiple offers lined up at graduation and companies were wasting money flying us first class all over the place to attend meetings!

The 90s were a freakin' rollercoaster.

Perhaps your DJ was of a younger age. The 90s were simple and innocent for me. I was born in 84, so I was only 6 in 1990.

of course they were. we were kids. we never really thought we'd be lookin at 40.

what really disturbs me is: i keep catching myself saying & doing things my father would say & do.

well time to go drink CC & 7-up & yell at the T.V. *shrugs*

He probably meant pre-9/11/Iraq War. Maybe fewer things for the average person to worry about, but simpler & more innocent? That's just silly. I'm proof that there were many opportunities for bad behavior during the 90s.

I suppose it was simpler in that not everyone and their mother had cell phones...the iPod didn't exist, most people still watched movies on VHS format, gas was under $2, not many people had internet and those who did - had dial-up. Osama Bin Laden was not a household name and you could go through export security without taking off your shoes.
