A friend of mine bought a property in Indian while he was under H1B. Now, he is An American citizen while the property is in his name?

Did he violate any law in India? Would he be in trouble if he apply for PIO card. He wants to apply for PIO card because he wants to owns property but worried about property already owned. Any thoughts....

Get PIO or OCI if you become a USC.

You still won't be able to buy agro or plantation properties, though.

USC's without PIO or OCI card can not do a property transaction. Your friend bought when he was Indian. He can't sell until he is PIO or OCI.

Note that this doesn't apply to agro or plantation properties... those are off limits to non INdian citizens.

Man is made by his belief. As he believes, so he is.
