Hi. My fiance went for his medical today - everything seemed fine and the doctor said he was healthy, but said that he needs to return tomorrow for a psychological evaluation because he disclosed some issues from his past (teen years) to the doctor when the doctor asked some specific questions. My fiance brought a letter from his old psychologist stating that he is fine now, but the doctor said that it is embassy policy and that contractually he has to recommend that my fiance see the embassy psychologist. Is this something I should worry about? These issues I am speaking of happened 7-8 years ago when he was in high school. I really hope this is not grounds for a visa denial!

Well, it's true that there are questions on the medical concerning your fiances mental health as well as drugs and alcohol. If he had some mental health issues in the past that are dealt with, and he has a letter from his previous psychologist saying there are no issues now, then I suspect that the psychological evaluation that the embassy requires is really a confirmation of this. I wouldn't worry that theyare requesting this, I'm pretty sure it's standard for anyone that discloses any previous issues. I'm sure that these issues occurring in the teen years will be taken into consideration. Please update when you can.

It depends on the country. I don't know what Turkey's restrictions are, but in the Philippines, if you admit to prior drug use (even if it was a long time ago), you are banned from the US. In Mexico, if it was less than 3 yrs ago, you don't get the visa until you've had... something like 3 yrs of psychological evaluation showing you're not an addict, and then going through the interview again.

Thank you for your ideas. It was not about drug use, just past mental health issues. He had his appointment with the psychologist today and he said it went well. The psychologist told him that she wrote something positive about him on her report. So, I feel a lot less anxious about that...but still very anxious for the interview that is in 12 days!

I'm glad his interview the psychologist went well! Think positively. Having the letter from his previous psychologist will also help. Yes, it's true what the previous poster said about drugs, but I understood from your first post that it was about mental health issues...and for those cases, I've heard that given a positive evaluation from the embassy chosen psychologist, that barring anything else, you shouldn't have any trouble obtaining a visa. Please let us know how it goes in 12 days! Best of luck!
