anybody here had a civil wedding in the US then returned to the philippines for the catholic church wedding?

if yes, did you still report the US marriage to nso? because if that's the case, then you'll be married twice in nso....

on the other hand, what happens if i dont report my US marriage to nso? i'd still be considered single when i come back here? and my husband then... what would be his status? he's a filipino but got his US citizenship.. so i dont know if his records in nso would still count.

Hi,

I have not, but we are planning the same, by having a civil wedding here in states and then maybe when everything is all settled, hopefully in 3 years, we planned to go back to Philippines and plan our wedding there.

I've read somewhere that its better to report your marriage to NSO. I also read that after your marriage in US, you can go to the philippine embassy wherever your located in US and report the marriage and they will themselves report it to the NSO i think.

here is a similar topic: http://www.visajourney.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=136592

If you got married in the US, then you are very much married anywhere. Its just that if you don't report your married to NSO in philippines, They wouldn't know you are married, and they won't know your married last name. That's what i think.

Anyway here's something I also read http://www.filipinoweb.com/married.html

regarding marriage procedure in Philippines:

1. Secure the Affidavit in lieu of Certificate of Legal Capacity to Contract Marriage from the American Service Branch of the U.S. Embassy in Manila or from the U.S. consulate in Cebu City. If both the bride and the groom are U.S. citizens, each one must obtain an Affidavit.

2. Apply for the marriage license at the Local Civil Registrar from the municipality where either the bride or the groom habitually resides. The documents necessary for the marriage license are (1) the Affidavit for the U.S. citizen bride or groom, (2) the death certificate or divorce decree which shows the termination of any previous marriage(s) of the bide and/or the groom, (3) the birth, baptismal or residency certificate for the Philippines bride or groom, and (4) the parental consent or advice, if either party is under age.

3. Philippine law prescribes a ten-day waiting period from the filing of the Application to the issuance of the marriage license. The license is valid for 120 days and maybe used anywhere in the Philippines.

4. Present the license to a person authorized to perform marriage ceremonies, such as judge, justice of the peace, priest or minister of religion.

Goodluck! & TC!

Do you both have any idea yet where in catholic church you plan to marry?

We have two choices as of now...

Manila Cathedral or Caleruega Church in Tagaytay..

Legally, if you are married in the US, then you can only have a marriage ceremony in the Phils.

I would suggest opting for renewing your vows rather than falsifying the CENOMAR and Affidavit of Legal Capacity to Marriage.

thanks so much for the info!

im planning to get married in the US this september. Then my church wedding will be at Christ the king greenmeadows august 2009. Hopefully my adjustment of status will be done by then... but i will still apply for permit to travel just in case.

manila cathedral and caleruega are both beautiful. caleruega is small, more like a chapel, which is perfect for an intimate wedding with few guests. (L)

thanks for the reply.

you're right. i'll just ask the church what their procedure and requirements are for couples who are already married.
