Can someone give me an overview timeline?

My husband just received his CR-1 visa and we are moving to the US in August. I know we have a ways to go, but I´m just curious about the future steps we´ll have to take.

His visa came with a letter that said he should receive his SSC within 3 weeks. After that, I´m not sure what will happen and when we will need to do something else (like AOS?). Will he just carry his passport with him everywhere, or will he get some other kind of ID card? If so, when should he receive this card?

Also, what is the procedure for traveling outside the US? I want to take my husband to Canada and then in a year we will be returning to Peru for a vacation. Will he need to ask permission then, or just bring the visa or his card?

Since your husband has a CR-1 visa, he will be receiving a green card and SS in the near future. I believe he will have both in 30-45 days. You do not have to do AOS for two years. How cool is that? I'm not sure about visa requirements. Here is the link to check if a visa is needed to travel to certain countries-

He will not need a visa to go to Canada, just his passport and the green card. As far as Peru if he is a citizen of Peru then no visa required, just bring the green card to enter back into USA

By the way, Mrs Scott said your husband has to do AOS in 2 years, I believe she meant he has to do a removal of conditions. Adjustment of Status is what happens if the intending immigrant is already here under a different (usually non-immigrant/worker visa/student etc) category.

One thing you might want to start doing is looking at the different types of evidence you'll need for your removal of conditions, and start a folder/box to collect them.
