(Aly - I just noticed - you called me Pointy  )

 I know - blame Marta!! I think it sounds cute!!

and Mags - love your new kitties in your sig :D

lol @ Pointy. It's actually quite cute!

Jeraly ~ I love the siggy pic too. Unfortunately I don't require a starter kit; more so I require an "ender" kit. We're currently up to nine. *sigh* It's only temporary though - I brought in a 6 week old kitten that had been abandoned and am socialising it, before helping it be re-homed at the shelter I work at.

Cats. I love 'em. Can you tell?

Mags,

does not smell of pee. Honest.

 It's ok - cat pee smells better than mice pee :D

Wow - nine? Last I heard you were on seven... I still have the one - she is still settling down but getting a bit more adventurous about being outside and can find her way back easier now although I still like to keep an eye on her to make sure she doesn't head down to the road because she gets lost then!!! She miaows at me a lot when she is outside (prolly telling me to leave her alone to explore!) and this morning she has been causing havoc but is now sleeping - phew!! It's like having a small child so goodness knows how you cope with nine!! How long did it take for yours to settle when you moved?

(sorry - getting a bit OT here!!)

Yeah, we adopted Cleopatra a few months ago, bringing it to 8. Kitten (who is NOT staying!) is 9. Once she is gone, I'll probably continue with kitten fostering for the shelter. :D

Ziggy and Elmo, the cats who came from the UK with me, both reacted differently to the new house. Elmo was fine, but he's a little brain damaged so nothing phases him. Ziggy, on the other hand, didn't eat much at all for the first couple of weeks. Then suddenly, overnight, he was back to his old self and fine. When I say "old self" I mean the bad tempered git that he usually is. :P

Haha - yeah Daisy sleeps through most of the day then gets more active in the mornings and evenings when it is cooler. She's started getting more frisky now though so she must be building in confidence as she is trying to tear the place down!!!

Hi guys, I'm reviving this thread, cos I might finally get around to doing some of this stuff. Nich-Nick has agreed to help with some London centric K-1 info. But if anyone wants to help it would be very much appreciated. All you have to do is post some info on any topic in this thread and I will convert it in to a wiki.

The topics we've got that we could work on are:

The linked threads:

Medical reviews

Interview

Shipping

Sending money to US

Bringing pets from the UK to the US

UK Foods and where to get them (and PUBs!)

Wiki entries:

UK FAQ links to all of the UK specific wiki entries

UK Passport renewal

Immigration to the UK

Marrying in the UK

Possibly a 'So I'm in the UK, my Fiance is in the US - what can we do' flowchart

DCF London (done!!! :D )

K-1 guide to the Embassy stage (in London)

Vaccine requirements

Bringing Pets from the UK (the linked one is very general, maybe you guys got more good advice?)

Bringing Electrical items to the US from the UK (and keep the thread linked from the wiki entry)

Leaving UK Tax info

If you have anything, anything at all in the form of info about these topics, post them and they can be the start of the wiki on that topic.

thanks all. I just finally wanted to say that I'm still not 500% certain that this is a fantastic idea. I mean people come here and everyone has to ask dumb questions to start with. And that's how you introduce yourself, and eventually you get familiar with people and a community develops. I worry that if no one has to ask the kind of questions that all of us can answer, then it becomes more of an info resource and less of a community. Any thoughts?

hahah, I just thought of something. And this would be good for all of VJ. How about a form which lists all the info you'll ever need for all the forms throughout the whole process. Collate it all in to one master form! Now THAT would be useful!

I think the stickied threads should be Medical (because there is no place to put reviews for London), Pets (because that might involve some reviews as well) and Shipping - I think a maximum of four threads can be stickied per forum so...?

As for pets - I have a bunch of links that I used to get info so these might help:

http://www.cdc.gov/ncidod/dq/animal/dogs.htm

http://www.cdfa.ca.gov/ahfss/animal_health/Cats_Dogs.html (this one is specific to California)

http://www.iata.org/NR/rdonlyres/0B9E3905-...AR_33rd_CR1.pdf (Live animal regs from the International Air Transport Association)

http://www.petplanet.co.uk/product.asp?dep...&pf_id=1407 (The bag I used to bring my cat across in cabin - just if people want to search for something similar - it could squash down under the seat well, complied(ish!) with regs and has removable inserts that are washable - I bought mine from the US though and got J to bring over to me as it was much cheaper)

http://www.petfriendlytravel.com/?page=airtravel

http://www.pettravel.com/

http://www.aphis.usda.gov/import_export/an...orts_pets.shtml

http://www.aphis.usda.gov/import_export/an...ts_states.shtml (this includes a drop down menu to find individual State regs)

http://www.visajourney.com/forums/lofivers...php/t47946.html (an old VJ review)

Here are some other random links I have bookmarked - not sure if they will help:

http://www.visajourney.com/forums/index.ph...;p=1567437& (my DUB POE while visiting during the K-1 process review)

http://www.visamedicals.info/us.asp

http://www.visajourney.com/consulates/inde...&cty=London

http://www.direct.gov.uk/en/EducationAndLe...998/DG_10034872 (Repaying Student Loans when moving overseas)

http://www.direct.gov.uk/en/MoneyTaxAndBen...eUK/DG_10026234 (Tax when leaving the UK)

http://www.britishembassy.gov.uk/servlet/F...d=1013618517645 (UK embassies in the USA)

I think that is it

Oh - I have links to shipping companies as well but dunno if you want/need them?

For UK foods, links to the Trader Joes and World Market websites are essential :D
