Pre-"FAQ thread" thread

So the idea is to have a thread in the UK forum, to be stickied, and replace the ones that are stickied at the moment.

All of the below is up for discussion, even the very idea of the FAQ thread is up for discussion. But here is how I see it just at the moment:

In it would be links to a host of info that's UK related. Some of this info would probably be best in wiki form (updated when necessary), while some, like the medical and interview threads, could stay as they are, but unstickied linked from the FAQ thread in the first post. Please note, almost none of the wiki entries are created yet, so any help making them would be appreciated.

The linked threads:

Medical reviews

Interview

Shipping

Sending money to US

Bringing pets from the UK to the US

Wiki entries:

UK FAQ links to all of the UK specific wiki entries

UK Passport renewal

Immigration to the UK

Marrying in the UK

Possibly a 'So I'm in the UK, my Fiance is in the US - what can we do' flowchart

DCF London (done!!! :) )

K-1 guide to the Embassy stage (in London) (I need help with this one)

Vaccine requirements

Bringing Pets from the UK (the linked one is very general, maybe you guys got more good advice?)

Bringing Electrical items to the US from the UK (and keep the thread linked from the wiki entry)

Right, that's it for now. I'm going to leave it there, but I would love to hear suggestions for either more topics or content for the topics above. I'm going to be a little busy for the next week or so, but after that i'll have time on my unemployed hands, so I can work on getting it all sorted.

And one final thing - who elected me the queen of the FAQ, well nobody at all, but I see that it might be a very helpful resource, I hope you guys think so too.

I still think interview and medical threads should be stickied alongside the UK FAQ purely so you don't have to plough through the FAQ post...

Of course, if the FAQ post could be finalised then stickied and locked it would be really helpful - it would mean that people wouldn't keep posting and the initial page information lost :)

How about a UK food list? It's always handy to have lists of shops to look up and ideas on where to hunt for things you miss back home.

For the pets, I think a good start would be to get a list of airlines that a) allow pets in cabin B) allow pets but only in the hold and c) don't allow pets at all. It would also be handy to have specific requirements for individual species. For example, my cat only needed to have her vaccines up to date (not even including rabies but I got it just in case) and to have a letter from the vet saying she was fit to fly. I have added a comprehensive review of the process in the current pet thread which can be used for cats - dogs I am not so sure about but I know Eli the Barrowboy is moving with his dog soon?

So maybe start with airlines, then have different sections for each species of animal? Maybe at the end there could be some information on companies that will deal with the transit for you (airpets etc - again I don't know much of these) I am sure there is a ton more that can be added but that is all I can think of off hand :)

How about changing your name/registering your marriage in the UK as well? Just a thought - I have a link but it is on my puter and I am still on Jeremy's for now :P

Can I also suggest a shipping wiki as well? Maybe just a list of all shipping companies with links to their sites, maybe some reviews or links to reviews - things like that so people could make an informed decision?

As I've told Jeraly, we can only have four at a time. Once you've worked out what you want to have, let me know (via PM if poss, so I don't miss it) and I'll get 'em stickied for you. :D

I can also lock what you need locked, too. :)

Thanks Mags :D

Pointy has a good plan with this thread though - at least we can get a good range of opinions in one place and anyone who doesn't comment prolly doesn't really mind anyway

So it would be the FAQ, and the medical thread stickied? And the pets and passport info could be covered in a wiki (of course anyone can make new threads when their needed, but the basic info and links would be in the wiki)

The interview thread is not stickied at the moment, it just moves up and down like the other threads. That's why I thought maybe the medical one might be ok like that too. What do you think?

Let me think about this - there are a number of questions that continually come up about P85s, bringing money into the country, pensions, continuing payments to the Inland Revenue, etc. I am not an expert, but I can work through a few things.

I dunno - I'm kind of a neat freak - I think the medical thread was stickied because there was no real place for it but the interview one wasn't because people can add reviews to their timelines. I think it would still be useful to have an interview thread stickied but what do other people think?
