Visitor visa - though I think for a single Colombian female it is not easy to obtain.

School visa? Is she going to graduate school? undergrad?

She cannot sponsor anyone yet for permanent residence, and, when she does, I don't believe nephews or nieces are considered candidates. Someone please correct me here, I am not too sure.

Your wife cannot do anything about her niece getting a visa, unfortunately. But her niece may have three options:

1. Your wife can send her a letter of invitation saying that she will pay for all expenses during her trip, she can show this letter to the CO during her interview and hope for the best. But in all honesty a visitor's visa is very hard to obtain if the person requesting it does not have enough evidence to prove that they have all the reasons in the world to go back to Colombia once their trip to the US is over.

2. As for a student visa, she will have to be accepted by a college or university here in the States and be able to prove that she has the budget to pay for her classes, room and board. Once she's accepted, she can go to the embassy and request the visa. They can still deny her though.

3. Same for a work visa, she will have to have landed a job in the US and the employer has to prove that they cannot find a candidate in the US to fill out the position they want her to work in and that she's their only choice. The embassy can still deny this visa.

That's pretty much it and if she doesn't have all her ducks in a row, she will probably get denied.

B2 Visitors Visa

F1 Student Visa, speak to the International Stundent advisor at the the school you have in mind.

“If you know the enemy and know yourself, you need not fear the result of a hundred battles. If you know yourself but not the enemy, for every victory gained you will also suffer a defeat. If you know neither the enemy nor yourself, you will succumb in every battle.”
