SSN Name Change before sending in AOS Packets?

Hi all,

My wife got her Social Security Card (under her maiden name), and then we went back to change her name on it...the guy said it would take 2 weeks or so to get the one with the name change on it, and it's been over a month. I'm getting kind of nervous because we need to send this AOS Packet off before her I-94 expires...which is in just under a month.

Do we have to continue waiting for the name change on the SSN, or can we send the AOS packet off to them right now? I don't like cutting this kind of thing close, especially after coming this far in the process...... :crying:

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

You don't need the SSN to send your AOS!

You can send everything out right away. There's people on this forum that never even received a SSN because they don't have EAD or Green card yet :)

Go ahead and don't worry about the SSN.. I would check with the SSA though.. they "lost" my application the first time I filed for it, so I had to re-file...

go ahead and send the application. then contact your social security office and ask about your card. The SS card should not take that long to get.

1) you don't need a copy of your wife's SS card for AOS. If you have her SS # put it in the forms, that's all you need. If you don't have it put NONE.

2) you don't have to send the package before the I-94 expires. You need to marry before the 90 days, after that although it's best to send it soon so it's taken care of and you are not in limbo status, there are no regulation as to when it should be sent. So don't stress.

3) for the SS card, do check with the administration what's going on with it.
