Translated Documents

Hello,

We are to the point where we are waiting to receive the DS-230 and return it with all the original documents and translated documents... My question can I translate the documents since I am completely fluent in English and Spanish or do I have to pay a Certified Translator?

Anyone with information on this please let me know

Recomended to have a third party do the translating, this can be a friend that is fluent.

USCIS recomendation:

Please submit certified translations for all foreign language documents. The translator must certify that s/he is competent to translate and that the translation is accurate.

The certification format should include the certifier's name, signature, address, and date of certification. A suggested format is:

Certification by Translator

I [typed name], certify that I am fluent (conversant) in the English and ________ languages, and that the above/attached document is an accurate translation of the document attached entitled ______________________________.

Signature_________________________________

Date Typed Name

All certified means is that whoever does the translation needs to certify it by making a note on the translation that they are fluent in both languages and sign and date the translation. They DO NOT need to be a paid professional.

Translations

All documents not in English, or in the official language of the country in which application for a visa is being made, must be accompanied by certified translations.

The translation must include a statement signed by the translator that states that the:

• Translation is accurate, and

• Translator is competent to translate.

I translate and certify documents all the time so anybody can do it. You can even translate the documents yourself and get a friend or family member who is also fluent certify that it is a good translation, then ask them to sign it. It's faster and easier.
