Hey,

So I watched this movie finally (my husband didn't, he said it was way too boring)

and I'm not sure what it was but I cried at the end.

Was it the movie?

Was it the stress before the upcoming interview?

Or just both...

What is this movie about?

Oh you haven't heard of it?

It's with Gerard Depardieu, who marries this US girl to get the greencard.

They're showing the whole process, it would be interesting for you to see!

Gosh...it has been years since I saw that. But looking back I think it is kind of deceptive. I mean they never went through the separation that most of us go through. I mean I know they applied for AOS because he was here already. But most of us that isn't an option...or in our case the risks were just too high. Economically and my husband was afraid of what would happen if something were to happen to his elderly parents. So I wish it had been that easy for us.

I remember that mouvie, it`s with Andie Mcdowell (did I spell that right  )

it is very superficial, and just strengthens the most common belief of marriage fraud for the sake of the greencard IMHO

Naturalized! Yeah!

I agree. I get why the OP watched it probably ...just anything about this process...kinda interesting. But, like the others said..all about fraud, really. Just meant to be a romantic movie..not a USCIS movie. ;):) M.

I haven't seen that in a long time but I did like it. It is about fraud but if I remember right, don't they fall in love in the end? I was going to rent it so my husband could watch it.

Yes, eventhough it did started out as a fraud marriage they had to pay the consequences at the end when they did fall in love for real and him being deported, the only unrealistic thing about this movie was the very very short time they had their AOS process :o

Oh everyone...

Just relax, fraud or no fraud, it's a movie and not a documentary!

Just have fun with it, don't analyze it.

Well a lot of people here, myself included were already in the US, didn't have to get any K visas.

I was a student here, on a student visa when I met my husband.

The movie is one of the reasons why so many Americans think that foreigners just marry USC's for greencards. It helps stereotype family immigrants and whether or not they fall in love is irrelevant. Ever wondered why there is so little support for us?

I think the stereotype comes from Americans' general arrogance, not a movie.

Yes I remember that movie, I watched it just a few months ago after my future sister-in-law recommended it. I actually asked her what she was trying to imply cause in the end he got deported for not remembering her face cream. LOL. I wouldn't worry if you're going through this process for all the right reasons. Russ and I were curious to see how well we knew one another, so we tried to ask each other some questions....guess what??? He didn't know what my favorite color was, but his mum did. :) Overall he did very well so I'm not too worried. If I can I want to be there with him during his interview, he's worried I might give too much information and treat it like a game show (I tend to be very competitive) and act too suspicious by giving all the answers.....so I've agreed to keep my mouth shut. :innocent:

But for those of you close to your interview and you don't need the added stress.... stay clear. It might make you more nervous. Good Luck!!! :energetic:
