Catholic Church Versus Artificial Family Planning

I'd actually like more statistics on why...I don't think the majority are for medical reasons. From the stats I am looking up, risk to mother or fetal health looks like a small percentage for overall abortions.

I used to work at a women's health clinic. Although I do not have statistics I can say from anecdotal evidence that the primary reason a woman doesn't have an abortion during the first 12 weeks is for one of three reasons.

1. they don't know they are pregnant

2. they are in an abusive relationship

3. health concerns

Restaurants and bars have signs that say that smoking and drinking during pregnancy are dangerous for the child, but as far as I am aware there's no law that says a woman must not drink or smoke during her pregnancy. Should there be some sort of "being irresponsible while pregnant law".

And if you really need me to spell it out - no this is not something I agree with. Merely that there's always a big fuss about the "rights of the unborn" when it pertains to abortion, but not to "irresponsible" conduct during pregnancy. That seems odd when you think about it... doesn't it?

I understand that the stats may be very different since 1987. I'd like to see new stats on that one. Haven't found them yet.
