Why are sexual 'sins' given so much prominance? Even if I believed in the notion of sin, I still don't think I would understand how the sexual one seems to overshadow every other sin except possibly murder. Coveting hardly gets a mention, nor does image worship and lying seems to be almost acceptable. In fact, in the commandments, the only sexual sin mentioned is adultry and yet all these other sexual acts are thrown at people like guilt confetti. What's with that? Is that the human condition, to feel guilt ridden all the time? No thanks.

I also wanted to add that God said multiply to Adam and Eve, to populate the earth. I do not think that command is meant for every person. It can interpreted all different ways, I know. I just don't take it to mean that every couple has to have a lot of kids(unless they want to).

And there are some people that we would not want to multiply!

Well, only if 'mutiply' meant cloning. The children of murder's aren't necessarily going to be murders - in fact I think it's rarely the case? Their are 'conditioning' factors pertaining to upbringing of course, but even then there is no definite predictor of x condition delivers y result.

Murderers just being one example of course.

I am not against birth control pills overall but for me, I haven't taken them. I don't want to take the hormones(unless I really had to, some ppl do need to to regulate their hormones for reasons other than not wanting to get pregnant) and I am a little afraid of it terminating a fertilized or implanted egg. So I just don't go that route. But I am not against all forms of controlling getting pregnant, hence why I didn't get pregnant before I wanted to be. I am also very against abortion. I looked at the natl family planning website recently, and in regards to abortion was shocked at how far along they still would let someone abort. A time in pregnancy when I knew I was having a boy and saw him moving all around in the ultrasounds and saw all his body parts formed and he was very alive and aware, squirming away from the ultrasound thing pressed on my belly and kicking me all the time. You can still abort at that stage. Unbelievable and horrible.

Less than 1% of all abortions are in the third trimester. Women who need to abort then, by and large, are doing so for medical reasons: the pregnancy's gone horribly wrong and the mother's life is in immediate danger, the child is developing without a brain, the child will survive birth but die painfully shortly after.

It's not really the popular caricature of someone deciding that she just didn't like being pregnant any more, which I think is good to keep in mind. (For one thing, you'd be hard pressed to find a doctor willing to abort that late in the game without a good reason, and with many medical advances, if it's a case of the mom's life being endangered, it's possible to deliver the baby early and save its life, too.)

I didn't say how many abortions were performed that late, I just was shocked at how late they were available. And where I read it, it did not focus on it being for medical reasons.

And I don't think every person having an abortion was just sick of being pregnant.

No, but you did say 'unbelievable and horrible', which I found to be strange terms to apply to something that is in most cases already a tragic situation. So I thought maybe you didn't know that it was usually only extreme circumstances when anyone would abort that late, and usually not in a case where everything's just peachy and the pregnancy would result in a healthy child if just left to itself.

I'm not sure I can agree with the rationale that a pregnant woman undergoing what is a biological process totally dependent on her should be constrained by so-called "rights of the unborn" (i.e. we can't take out the embryo and grow it in an articificial womb).

As a biological entity - they are not separable during pregnancy, and the child's rights during pregancy are essentially the mother's rights so surely its up to her to decide what happens to her body. Whether anyone agrees with the decision or not.

I was thinking about this as well - we have this big hoo-ha about abortion and contraception, but there is nothing to stop a woman from acting irresponsibly during pregnancy. Restaurants and bars have signs that say that smoking and drinking during pregnancy are dangerous for the child, but as far as I am aware there's no law that says a woman must not drink or smoke during her pregnancy. Should there be some sort of "being irresponsible while pregnant law". How would this be enforced?
