In the Philippines, family planning is still a hot topic between lawmakers and catholic church.

Church said that it is against the law of Christ if people are going to use artificial family planning methods such as pills, condoms etc.

Law makers said that the population is getting bigger and these methods are better than abortion.

I am a Roman Catholic. It is true that God said "Go and Multiply". But I do not think it is applicable for those who do not have anything to eat anymore but keep on adding to the increasing statistics of poverty and population. I do agree with artificial methods than to keep on giving birth not knowing what kind of life I could offer my kids. Overpopulation could result to a lot of crimes (obviously, many commits crime to live).. Maybe it is not a "crime" against my religion or to Christ if I want to give my future children a good life and never add up to the world's liability..

That is just my personal opinion...

I want to hear yours...

I promise to love you in good times and in bad, with all I have to give and all that I am, in the only way I know how -- completely and forever......

First and foremost,

im not a catholic, im a bornagain christian.. but given the said dillema of having people used of contraceptives is a sin.. i dont view it as such.. The real sin is having children borne out of plan or even outside the capacity of the parents.. if you claimed to be religios for that matter, practice abstinence.. but please, children needs, support, enough food and shelter.. if we cant give these needs we shouldnt be making them in the first place...

i have nothing against pill or condoms and the like, but pill has some side effects, might as well have the calendar method or withrawal.. its not a hundred percent sure alright.. but we have to make a choice..for the future of our family.. (given pill or condom) i choose a condom.. atleast i wouldnt have to gulp some pill that i wouldnt know the effect on my body..:D

The above are just my opinion and i know a lot of people can be with my side or the other..:D im just voicing out what i do believe in..:

Please be noted as well, that even that i do beleive with the use of contraceptives, i strongly stand against abortion. :D

the catholic church views have led to allot of poverty in 3rd world countries

Peace to All creatures great and small............................................

But when we turn to the Hebrew literature, we do not find such jokes about the donkey. Rather the animal is known for its strength and its loyalty to its master (Genesis 49:14; Numbers 22:30).

The Catholic Church's approach to family planning and sexual health leads a lot to be desired; and the World Health Organisation has criticised them for it for years - specifically because it has hampered efforts to stop the spread of HIV/AIDS in Africa, and in some cases facilitated it.

It doesn't help of course that their influence is so prevalent that it is reflected in our foreign aid packages to Africa which push abstinence-only programmes rather than comprehensive sex-education.

The Catholic Church has more or less given up trying to push its family planning views in the western world and has shifted its focus toward the 3rd world (which is, not coincidentally, where Catholic Church congregations are growing the fastest)

Intersting, they still hit the 3rd world with their dogma about family planning? I seriously thought the Catholic church was finally coming to its senses regarding this issue. Terribly sad if they are not for the reasons 6 cited.

Refusing to use the spellchick!

I have put you on ignore. No really, I have, but you are still ruining my enjoyment of this site. .

I have often found the teachings of the Catholic church a mystery. Where is the biblical reference?

There are 10 commandments and the two great commandments in the bible outside of this people should consider how these apply to any situation.

Contraception (In my opinion) does not contravene any of these.

To my knowledge they haven't altered their position all that much.

Contraception (In my opinion) does not contravene any of these.

They commonly use Gen 38:6-10 for the (mis)reference.

  • 06 And Judah took a wife for Er his firstborn, whose name was Tamar.
  • 07 And Er, Judah's firstborn, was wicked in the sight of the LORD; and the LORD slew him.
  • 08 And Judah said unto Onan, Go in unto thy brother's wife, and marry her, and raise up seed to thy brother.
  • 09 And Onan knew that the seed should not be his; and it came to pass, when he went in unto his brother's wife, that he spilled it on the ground, lest that he should give seed to his brother.
  • 10 And the thing which he did displeased the LORD: wherefore he slew him also.

(the correct reference would be that it was wrong because Onan was trying to get out of a bargain into which his dad had placed him)
