Hi

Well it should be my fault I think as I wrote N/A to the questions 20 and 22 and left question 2 blank on DS - 230. and now they have send me a RFE letter on July 11, explaining what to do next and Today July 14 talked to NVC about this and they told me follow the instruction in the letter on what to do next. Now what should I do, Should I wait for the letter or mail them another copy of DS 230 to NVC. Please let me know as I am expecting to get the letter this week and how long will it take for RFE to process, if I get the letter tomorrow and send it by overnight mail to NVC.

thanks

Wait - did you mean #21a&b - about who is immigrating to the U.S. with you? [#20 is about residence and #22 is about employment - I guess you wouldn't put "N/A" for where you lived...]

At the very last minute, I did change those answers to "None" because I vaguely remembered some discussion about "N/A" vs. "None" ... but it was a tough call and I went back and forth on that - "N/A" seems like it should work, too - very subtle ...

Anyway, I am sorry to hear that you received an RFE ... but I think you have to wait for the letter because you don't know if the operator told you everything ... annoying. But it seems like once the RFE info is received it processes quickly.

Your situation brings up a good point: I just checked and there was nothing on the Wiki yet about the nuances of filling out these NVC forms. So I posted what I could remember about RFE-generating problems from posts I have read. Hopefully people will add to that section - I know from experience that it is often hard to sift through dozens of posts on this forum to try to find specific answers.

I think lotopatience is going to be adding a lotostuff about the NVC process on the Wiki soon. Let's hope so! It is really helpful and there is no sense in each of us having to re-investigate every detail.

And looking ahead - I have an extensive list of interview questions that I have combined from all the sources I can find (including loto's) for my own use. I will put that on the Wiki soon so others can use them and contribute their own from experience.

Good luck to you when you get to that stage - sounds like you are close!

Hello Chintan,

When I discovered I was getting an RFE from the NVC and what it entailed. I typed up an email with the needed information. If you clearly understand what information they need from you it would not hurt to email them this information. I can send you a note with the outline of my email. They accepted my email to fullfill the obligation of the RFE. Do not send another DS 230 as they do not recommend.

Then once your recieve the actual RFE you can submit it they way the request if you have nto recieved a responce from your email.

Send me a note if you are interested.

Good luck.

Missy

Hi Lurking,

Can I ask what your RFE was for?

With chintan, they are going to ask him for a correction to the DS-230 - so they are going to return the DS-230 to him for correction, emailing NVC in this case is not advisable, I wouldn't think.

Chintan, I would advise you to wait to receive the RFE from NVC.

chintan, as trailmix explained, wait for DS-230 RFE letter (may be in 1 to 2 weeks time) and act accordingly. Past is past, but I would warn you simple mistake could delay the family reunion further... These are careless mistakes, I don't like it. Sorry for that Chintan, please take it as a brother's advice (F)

The question that I missed writing was 20 and 22 about residence and employment, as I wrote N/A in those 2 questions. and NVC did not accept those answers.

Before sending the DS 230, I did double check everything and then I mailed it, and I did answer Q 20/22 with N/A and NVC did not accept that answer. I just do not understand why NVC would have a problem with N/A with those 2 questions.

Thanks

Hi Chintan,

For those two questions:

20. List below all places you have lived for at least six months since reaching the age of 16, including places in your country of nationality. Begin with your present residence.

N/A cannot be accepted here as it is asking you to state every place where you have lived since the age of 16, including in your own country. You have to have lived 'somewhere' so not/applicable is not an answer for this one.

22. List below all employment for the last ten years.

If you were not employed over the past 10 years, then perhaps n/a might be accepted. If this is your case, perhaps you should explain this to them by entering "I have not been employed in the last 10 years".

Hope this helps.

Thanks, I am expecting to get the letter from NVC today, as I have received all the mail from NVC in 3 days of mailing, as I have compared the postmark on previous mails from NVC letters. and I think getting an RFE at this stage will not effect my interview date as I am expecting to have it September, And I think it would only delay the case complete at NVC by another 1 week, instead of this week. in the end I am still in a good position to have a Sept interview date.

thanks for all your help.

Question 20 was not filled out in it entirety. I wrote in my email to please accept this email as a response to question #20 on form blah blah in response to your request for more information.

By the time I received my RFE my case was complete. If I did not get the automated message stating that they received the required information, I would have completed the RFE to cover my assets.

Before sending the DS 230, I did double check everything and then I mailed it, and I did answer Q 20/22 with N/A and NVC did not accept that answer. I just do not understand why NVC would have a problem with N/A with those 2 questions.
