I think if this question was asked in the "upper forums" we would see a big shift in the responses. If there is one iota of "how does this affect my immigration journey" IMHO - hands off on the moral judgments.

Off Topic & some of the "lower" forums are their own own planets.

I think she's right and perhaps personal threads are bit out of place in OT. Could they be moved out of OT, possibly into their own forum? :) (Unless of course, the poster wants to keep it in OT)

Hmmmm, I dunno, I don't really think that's the problem. People who want to will find threads with potential for drama or with the potential to point out that the question is entirely too personal and not appropriate for VJ! wherever they are. The problem is with posters, not with location of posts IMO.

There's no distinction between "off-topic" and other posts when you look at the portals and not the overall forum. I'm probably like a lot of other people who don't bother reading outside their portal posts.

This is the third thread based on a single post about husband who sent a lot of money to his home country at the expense of his family in America. So what? It's a common issue in international marriages and you can expect a range of answers. None of the posters were really nasty to the OP. Try reading almost any other forum which quickly descends into a swearing contest.

I had a few people on VJ jump on my earlier posts trying dictate their terms to the newbie. No thanks. Too many long-time posters on too many forums treat "their" website as a personal soapbox to shout down anyone else. That leads to cyber tribalism where people only go to places to confirm their beliefs rather than learn something new.

To me, alot of posters who participated like that just wanted to increase their post count just to get a cool rank and the majority of them in the threads are in the OFF TOPIC section.

what is the purpose of getting "rank" on VJ I thought people came here to be educated about how to proceed with there cases?????????

I would disagree this was my meaning here :) I do not necessarily feel personal threads are out of place in OT. I was just trying to say the upper forum regulars tend to have discussions without the name calling, etc (for the most part). Off topic regulars sugar coat things less, and are more blunt.

I don't really have an opinion on creation of a new forum for this purpose.

We need one more forum around here like we need a hole in the head.

If this place gets any more segregated, I'm gonna explode.

God forbid that you enter a Regional Forum you don't 'belong' in. Or a 'filer thread' that's not 'your month'. It's even getting dangerous to post in K3 if you or your spouse came on K1.

This place is just nasty anymore. Really really nasty.

Ah, ok. Sorry, Laura - I was just taking what you had said and running with it.

That's what I'm wondering. Take a look at some of the VJ's top poster's posts, they're interested in posting some news headlines that probably no one wants to read or has nothing to do with immigration. We have TVs and newspapers for news.

I have to say I don't think another forum will be beneficial. The people who DO make the comments you are trying to get away from will just follow the bread crumb trail.

More forums will just add to the confusion and, to be honest, I think VJ has enough forums. Personally, I think we could reduce it in size in some places.

Just my 2cents worth! :D

No worries - I was just trying to convey that we see more comraderie in the immigration forums than in OT in general (ie: general tone of "lets get through this together" and "lets rally around"). The crowd-think is different, therefore my original answer.
