Hi,

I came to US on k1 visa, got my AP and EAD documents last month. I have 2 questions

1) The reasons I gave while appliying for AP were in case of emergencies and to visit family in my home country. The AP document states "xxx allows me into the US based upon urgent humanitarian reasons or significant public benefit".

Can I not go out of US for any other reasons than mentioned above? We're planning to visit some countries for our honeymoon. Will I be allowed for that?

2) Since I got my EAD, I'm planning to take DL test. If I pass the test and get the DL later, how long will it be valid? I still have not got my conditional green card. I have my EAD valid for anohter year. Should I have to take another test after I get my conditonal green card/green card? Or can I renew it?

Thanks in advance

It's too bad you didn't come to VJ earlier and we could have told you just to say on your application "to visit friends and family"! Your AP document isn't in error really, it says exactly what you stated you wanted it for on it. I'm sure you can still use it. If someone back here in the US was very particular, they might ask you what emergency you were away from the country on, but I highly doubt it. It will look the same as anyone else's AP document.

As for your DL, you might want to specifically ask the NY DMV this question, unless there is someone specifically from there that can answer that. Each State is different on how they handle getting your DL, and renewing it. You mention that since you have your EAD you're planning on taking the DL test. Have you checked the NY DMV website? Some States don't allow you to get your DL until you've got your GC. Like Missouri. Some people have come from States where they got their DL upon arrival, and it expired when their I-94 or Visa did. I just drove on my SK DL until I got my GC. My license expires the day that my GC expires. Again...it's all up to your own State, so best to ask them.
