We are trying to reserve our plane tickets to head to the U.S. My wife will be coming in on an IC1 visa. Does she need to register an address that she will be staying at with the airline? We are booking online, so there is no travel agent to help us. The reservation form says that from 2004 all non-US citizens who enter the country need to list an address unless they are are coming in on a permanent resident visa. For a permanent resident visa, it says to give the permanent resident card # at the airport when we depart. Does my wife's IC1 visa count as a permanent resident visa or should she supply an address. If permanent resident, what is her permanent resident #. Is it the registration # on the IC1 visa sticker in her passport?

Also, I heard somewhere a few months ago that the U.S. was implementing some additional registration for people from visa waiver countries a few days before they depart. My wife is from a visa waiver country (Japan). Does this additional registration apply to her or does it not matter since she has an IC1 visa?

Thanks,

John

If it asks for an address, you are going to have to give them an address.

The airport check in staff at the departing airport will ask for the PR card or visa and then the address that you will be residing in the US. Simple process. No worries.

Good luck and cheers! :star:

You will not be effected by the new VWP requirements as they do not start until January 1st 2009 and anyway you are not traveling under the VWP.

If it asks for an address, you are going to have to give them an address.

Well, as I stated in my original post, it says an address is needed except in the cases I mentioned. My question was whether my wife was included in those cases I mentioned or not. We will probably just list an address regardless, but my worry is that listing an address when not required may put my wife in a different status in their computers than she needs to be. I just don't want to create any un-necessary problems.

John

Thanks, that is good to know.

I guess the question I am wondering is does my wife's CR1 visa count as a permanent resident card or does the permanent resident card only becomes valid when her CR1 gets stamped at the port of entry?

John

What your wife will get is a single entry visa. The stamp that the customs and immigration officer puts in her passport when she arrives will act as a temporary green card until your real one comes in the mail. At least this is my understanding of it.
