Wedding Proposal

My wedding proposal is a pretty funny story (the last paragraph is the funny part).

Let me give some background. I had jokingly proposed to her once or twice in the past. She really didn't think that was funny as I did.

Anyway, on one of my trips to visit her in Costa Rica, I planned a nice weekend trip to the beach resort in Flamingo where we first fell in love. I figured it would be the perfect place to propose. It's kind of far away, a 5-6 hour drive but I prefer the 35 minute flight via the puddle jumper (a 17 seat plane that can be a little bumpy )

We arrived Friday mid-day, and I couldn't wait. I had this thing planned for like 4 months so I was really anxious. So I asked if she wanted to take a walk on the beach. I discretely put the ring box in my shorts pocket and we went for a walk. As we're walking I tell her that I want to write her a poem (she loves poems) in the sand, but I don't want her to see my writing it. I ask her to go sit like 100 feet away and I will get her when it's finished.

So then I go to a clear spot on the beach (secluded beach, almost nobody there to mess it up for me) and I wrote "Will you marry me?" But I pretended like I was writing a lot more since it's supposed to be a poem.

So then I go get her but ask her to close her eyes. So then I brought her right in front of it and I stood behind her and I asked her to open her eyes. There was dead silence for like 10 seconds. Then I whispered "Pssss..." And she turned around and saw me holding the ring box opened with a nice diamond sparkling in the sun. Her mouth opened, but she was silent for about 10 seconds, then she started trembling a little and the flood gates opened . I asked "yes?" And she jumped on me with a resounding "yes" and started hugging and kissing me.

She later told me that when she first looked down and read it, she was silent because it made her furious. She thought it was another one of my pretend proposals. She was trying to figure out what to do (to me) before she turned around. She was going to slap me in the face before she saw the ring. Phew....

We had a conversation about the realities of immigration law from both of our countries and it turned out marriage was the only viable option.

Though he tried to make up for it later and he asked me again while we were walking in the Target parking lot....then again several months later when he came for a visit and brought an engagement ring (which the friend who introduced us told him he'd better not show up without!!!). He's very practical and not very romantic, but I've never felt more at peace with someone or more loved. You can be loving without being romantic.

he bought me a ticket to Costa Rica and spent my birthday together wehehe and proposed to me in front of his dad... Oh my I was blushing, happy but so shy coz he's dad was listening...

Mine is similar he said "I want to live with you forever and the only way is if we get married" my reply??? "ummmm ok" yeah really romantic.

ohhh and it was via web cam.... hehe and just FYI he is killer romantic now just not so much than.

Ours really isn't that romantic. When I was working in Buenos Aires, we were together every moment possible. Then we just started talking about getting married, I don't know who brought it up first. So over time, it just kind of became accepted that we were going to get married. Then in May 2007, I was told that I had to return to the US.

I did however return to visit about every 6 weeks. Then when I was getting ready to return in November, I wanted to buy her a ring. So I spent alot of time going to many many stores looking for a ring. The I found the ring that I liked. However, I always think that she will not like what I get her. Eventhough she has always loved everything.

So we were talking on yahoo, and I said I had a surprise for her when I came to Buenos Aires. And she is the type that will not let it go, she just keeps asking what it is. I was worried about the size of the ring, I wanted it to be perfect. So I finally gave in and told her what it was and sent her a picture, and told her to let me know her ring size. She started crying while we were in yahoo,

So when I was in Buenos Aires, we were walking in a park across from the US Embassy and i knelt down and asked her to marry me and gave her the ring.

So when I asked her, it was really just going through the motions. We knew that we were going to get married.

I sent her a letter of intent I downloaded from visapro.com and asked her to sign it and overnight it back to me.

Did she adjust the covenants in the letter - and did you follow up with a commitment letter?

I visited him knowing that he was going to propose sometime, just not exactly when or how. In the end all of his plans went out of the window. He was so excited to give me the ring that he couldn't wait and proposed one morning in bed (after I'd returned from a trip to the bathroom).

This is basically what I wound up doing (but without the bathroom part - and at night). I had ideas about a nice restauant, walk in the park, etc. but I just couldn't let the sun set without asking her.

Well, he had planned it to propose to me on his second trip and make it a surprise with my sister's help but I kinda pulled it out of him Seriously, he thought I would just watch him get on a plane without getting an answer as to where this thingy is going??? Anyway, he's flying down in a month and promised to do a proper proposal with the talk to my father God help him, my Dad speaks no English

It won't be a problem. Some things need few words. He will see the look on your faces and know the die is cast any way. Hell, if I can get through that any one can.

He proposed to me while we were in a little boat on a lake. I remember he started talking about his family & started taking his necklace off. My first thought was "what the hell is he doing?" then i heard the proposal & was all . he said that he kept searching for the perfect ring, but he knew that i am extremely picky about jewelry. So he gave me his necklace...it has deep sentimental value, since he had been wearing it for 15 years.

I feel all mushy when I see really old pictures of him & the necklace is around his neck.

The only thing that was a little distracting, was that our daughter was in the boat too! She was 1 & wearing this huge, pink float vest. So she was looking & acting a little odd. The pictures are hilarious.
