I want a makeup that doesn't come off when I sweat. Powders never last but look the best on me since i'm borderline TRANSPARENT lol. I get zits really easily so I have to be very careful which ones I choose. I haven't worn any in a long time coz I just haven't had the time lately. *sigh*

hi. monday morning and bigazz meeting in an hour with the big big big boss. her personality is the mirror image of whatshername from The Devil Wears Prada. blech

Good luck Jackie! Geesh I miss the weekend and you already have another job! way to go!!!

All the babies look adorable. I want one !!!!!!!

Vacation next week...can't wait!

Make up dilemma:

So my 12 yr old's friends ALL wear makeup and my response this past year has always been "if they ALL jumped off a bridge would you?".................to which she always replies "if I had a bungee cord attached to me, sure!"

Anyhoo I told her she could wear lip gloss and zit concealer but I *know* she's been wearing mascara to school (before it became summertime) because at the end of the day it would bleed down to under her eyes. I have seen her friends and they all have those racoon eyes 'cause they pile on the eyeliner. BLECH. Not a good look for a 12 yr old they look like ladies of the evening instead!

So..........I sat her down and told her that I'm going to take her and her sister next week for a makeover. I figured I can just make an appt with MAC or Clinique or something. That way, since they're going to do it behind my back anyways I'd rather allow it and have them do it properly so they don't look like lil hoochie mamas, you know?

My question is.............what product would give them more of a natural look, or does it not matter and I should just explain to the woman doing it that I want the least amount as possible ? I'm really not into makeup. Never have been. I wash my face with a good product from Elizabeth Grady and same with moisturizer and toner but for makeup I just use under eye concealer and that's that.

Any thoughts?

Oh! And here's the thing-- maybe what your daughters want is a complicated beauty routine because that's what kids who have nothing better to do usually like :) I remember spending like an hour getting ready each morning before school when i was 12-18, and somehow it went down to about 15 minutes including a 10 minute shower and getting dressed lol.

So, I'd try to get the beauty lady (not you, you're not cool :) ) to get them into moisturizers, foaming face washes, and whatnot which are NOT makeup but general skincare. Face masks are great fot teens. I still have like 3 kinds and when did I use them last? like maybe last year? who knows. They have pretty bottles.

Then, again with a light powder makeup. Impress the need for a moisturizing and suncreen base such as smashbox photo-finish.

Lipgloss is the best thing ever.

For mascara, I don't know your daugther's colors, but if they have blonde, red or brown hair, try to get the beauty lady to tell them about brown mascara. it's harder to find than black, the best stuff is in Sephora-- like Nars bamboo or BE Espresso (second one is mine), and teach them how to brush both the tops of their eyelashes first and then the underside-- that way you coat the lashes and make them darker without having to gob on ####### from underneath.

PS-- just watched the Katy Perry video. Seriously, it has all the good ingredients to be a good rebellion song-- sex, skimpy clothes, and it is really catchy. They'll get over that.

Back to the make-up-- I'd make an appointment and then talk to the woman beforehand... and then consider leaving while they are having it done.So tell the woman what you want, how old they are, your concerns, etc. Tell them you'll meet them there to pay or whatever, but that you and your Dh want to walk around or whatever excuse you have and leave them be... that way they feel they were in control, they had their input, and the woman at the counter won't seem to be parroting you. Also maybe try for a younger make-up girl, one with whom they may feel more comfortable. When you're 12, girls in their 20s seem pretty cool. When you're in your 20s, girls who are 12 seem way to young for makeup. So you're not going to have a hard time talking to a younger MU girl about the dilemma.

Bare Essentials is the closet thing I have found to any of that. I'm really white as well, and I have a hard time finding a foundation which is light enough for me.. double trouble for me though, is I have olive undertones and everyone who makes makeup thinks if you're really white you must be a pink undertone. Idiots. So I have like 4 choices at any one time, and BE worked for me-- I got the starter kit which was kind of a waste of time. I should have just gone straight to the palest color and chosen that. They have a kit entitled something similar to "fair" which really means "a normally dark person after winter time" as opposed to "haha, northern European glow-in-the-dark white who looks kind of sick and dead because you have a green undertone." That foundation color was only sold outside the box and is better entitled something like "porcelain." I am really oily too, but I did need to use the smoothing lotion before applying.. also the finishing powder is essential and is, as a plus, even whiter than the foundation. I tended to not apply their warming blush as blush makes me look really weird-- there isn't a shade that is light enough. I figured out I could mix it with the finishing powder and it worked, but way too much effort. I did that on the plane before I went to see him (I'd take plane-showers with wipes, shave, washing face, etc change clothes and whatnot so i looked like I just got ready) but it's not worth it for a regular basis unless you really like blush.

Informercial LIES about its coverage though, which was your omplaint in the first place. I think you'd have to cake it on to get that. For me, though, it worked out alright with decent coverage.

ETA: I was born 2 weeks early, but my mom said the last month of her pregnancy (so 7.5months and on) she would go to work (clinical psychologist) come home, and then plop on the couch and sometimes sleep until morning. She was exhausted. So i think it's normal.

You can do it, but it takes work lol... you have to use their lotion and then while it's wet apply the first coat of foundation, then quickly work in a few more coats. Don't do the tap/swish thing, just load up and go! It may cake for me because I have oily skin, and so after an hour or so, it's got a nice oil going on which attracts anything! This makeup though, was the best at not showing my oil. Usually other makeups wear off me in about 2-3 hours.

Hi Ladies (and guys) --

Popping on to say hi to my favorite people on the 'net. Jackie -- it is AWESOME how quickly you went back to being employed, and seems like you enjoyed the first day (and wow, secured the customers already!).

I saw some notes about makeup -- (skimmed quickly thru the thread)... I wear Bare Essentials. I also SWEAT a lot, especially during the summer... so here's my newest finding: No.7 Mattifying makeup base cream. You find those at Target in the "Boots" section of the makeup area. WOW. Make sure you do apply moisturiser before. It really *sucks* up all the oil/moisture. So far my face hasn't melted away since using it alone or under makeup.

As for the teenage girls.... eh, MAC seems to be all the "rage" for young girls.. but I find them a little too heavy on coverage. It's always fun going for a "make over" there tho!

Hope you all have a great evening!
