Missed my fingerprinting appointment

Hi, we were out of town for a week and when we came back, I received my appointment notice for fingerprinting which was 2 days ago, what should i do???? Its says on the notice, failure to appear will cause application to be abandoned!

First thing tomorrow morning, I would call USCIS and explain - see what they advise you to do. You need to jump all over this though, don't let it drop!

Did they send you a notice to tell you that you need to be fingerprinted in a few days? I don't understand how they could've given you such short notice.

Go first thing Tuesday to the ASC office and try to get it done..... do not delay!

They do sometimes give such short notice - I got my one of my notices on December 21st - 2 days before we were scheduled to fly away for Christmas holidays on the 23 - and the appointment was for the 26 - the day before we returned. I hand-delivered the reschedule request the following day along with copies of my airline tickets. There was no problem with rescheduling. You have a perfectly reasonable explanation for missing the appointment and they did give unreasonably short notice. You should be fine either with rescheduling or doing a walk in. If you have proof of being out of town (ie. airline tickets. gas or hotel receipts from somewhere else, etc.) bring them with you as reinforcements:-). Heck - it is summertime- people do take holidays!

I would do a walk in with the notice and proof that you were out of town and see if they can take you right away.

JUST AN UPDATE**

i did a walk in last wednesday and they took it! so happy! how long before i get my green card? i asked the ASC office, they said it may take A YEAR!!!

Happy for you that you got the fingerprinting done, yeah! For me, it was 9 months from biometrics to approval, so the ASC stock answer of "a year" is not overly outlandish. Hopefully it will be faster than that for you

Hey at least they didn't say the classic: oh you'll get it in a few weeks...

Check your local office processing times to get an idea. It can take longer or less than written down, but it gives an idea. It also depends if you get an interview or end up transfered to CSC.
