I was just on the UK website to see about a visa and one of the requirements was that I have a airline reservation, but not to buy the tickets until the visa is approved. I've never heard of an airline that does that. Can anyone offer some help. Thank You!!

I can't really give you any advice, only that I've never heard of that either. The airlines don't get involved in all that. It is up to UK Home Office.

Looking at your signature, I'm really gobsmacked at how quickly your 485 was approved. WOW!!

Well, airlines in Europe (meaning if you are buying tickets from there) do that, you can reserve your tickets but ot pourchase them for some time. You cannot do that in the US however, but if you are a green card holder you should now have any problems getting a visa, so you can go ahead and buy your tickets. You have to be aware that they have changed their regulations recently and you need to get fingerprinted (at the same office where you had your green card fingerprints done nonetheless) prior to applying for a UK visa.

It was surprisingly fast. I'm just glad that it's over until the naturalization process.
