KD,

I'm all about financial conservatism and low taxes and letting people keep what they earn. But with all due respect, what does that have to do with todays Republican party?

Yes, quite.

"A Conservative is a Liberal who hasn't been mugged yet"

"The fact that we are here today to debate raising America’s debt limit is a sign of leadership failure. It is a sign that the U.S. Government can’t pay its own bills. It is a sign that we now depend on ongoing financial assistance from foreign countries to finance our Government’s reckless fiscal policies."

Quite, but isn't that a bit of a strawman? KD's article refers to Republicans. The Republican party record of out of control spending does not reflect the value system of conservatism.

So very true. I have this wonderful t-shirt. On the front it says...Damn, I Miss Bill Clinton. On the back it says that...Ten years ago gasoline was 87 cents and we had a balanced budget. So why is it that if Republicans stand for limited government, balanced budgets and lower taxes that under a Republican controlled White House, Senate, House and judiciary we have none of those things? But heck I'm usually a Democrat so I have no idea.

Bill Clinton had the good fortune of having a Republican Congress that acted like Republicans. They held his feet to the fire on spending. Our current "Republican" Congress is acting worse on spending than they ever told us the Democrats would.

I agree. That's why I'm Libertarian. The Dems and Repubs are 2 sides of the same coin. At the end of the day you end up with less money and rights.

I actually looked up the NJ Libertarian party a few days ago. They sound crazy just like the Greens. Why aren't there any NORMAL 3rd parties?

The libertarians are about freedom and personal choice (yes. including drugs). Most people aren't ready for this yet. As long as you don't hurt someone else why should people care what you do? But they do.
