I agreed with him in the beginning(scary, I know), I liked the border control bit BUT I thought the rest of it sucked. He had great rhetoric, but no real plans. A temporary worker program?? We already have that and its incredibly hard to work with, I get that maybe he means reform it and make it workable, but that is not what he said. Has he heard of any of the H visas??

He didn't seem take much of anything approaching a definitive position, IMO.

Most conspicuously, he isn't going to impose fines on employers who hire illegals.

I agree - most of the reforms sounded great initially until you found out they were to be temporary.

What's with the Biometric ID card for illegals? Doesn't an official card grant illegal immigration give some degree of legitimacy to illegal immigration?

Exactly! But beyond that, he described the temporary work visas this country already has and said that was part of the answer - what changes in the program did he suggest? None!

A. I thought he was weak on the issue of employers. He mentioned how employers can't verify documents and how he wants to set up a system that lets them. He made NO mention of how many employers don't even try to verify documents.

Edit: the system to allow verification of documents will be another huge IT project. Think CSC, one of the biggest players in Federal IT.

B. All that hi-tech gadgetry at the border will cost $$$. If this bill passes, invest in Lockheed Martin stock And maybe an outsourcer or two (CSC and EDS come to mind).

That's what I thought too - no mention of any punitive measures for employers who hire illegals. That 'document verification' system will likely be a juicy federal contract... As will "the most technologically advanced border surveillance system"

I get that he meant a new type of visa, but where in his statement did he say anything different then what we already have? A temporary work visa already exists, so what is he planning on doing differently? Slapping a different name on the same thing?
