You have to eat and you have to eat as well as you can afford. You'll have to find other expenses to cut down on. I am considering downgrading my cable, that will net me an additional $30/month.

As an emergency measure, I also may reduce my 401k withholding to the minimum required to get the maximum employer match and also stopping scheduled prepayments on my mortgage. That should net me an extra 700, after taxes.

I actually have evaluated all my expenses, but can't really find anything to cut out. We don't really have many household bills, don't own any money on CC's. I just can't justfy my grocery bill anymore! Seems like the cost of everything has gone up dramatically.

I try to do a lot of the shopping at costco, its usually hideous at the checkout but of course in the long run its cheaper. we have a freezer in the garage so I can buy the bulk stuff and throw it in the freezer. In the summer we try to buy as much of the fresh stuff at the farmers market, mainly because its more delicious but its always cheaper too. I freeze some of that too, berries freeze really well and I got a flat of blueberries last week for 8 bucks.... and then stocking up on the weekly sale items at the grocery store. I have a husband, a teenage boy and a baby in the house so very little ends up going to waste even though sometimes when I am unloading my week's finds my husband seems skeptical that we will use it all. however he is the first to be happy when I whip up a cake on a sunday afternoon (because I bought 6 cake mixes last time they were on sale for 99 cents) :P

I have to admit, the stuff I buy at Costco lasts me forever. I try to go once every 6 weeks to stock up on items that are too expensive at the regular store. We are looking for another freezer/fridge combo for our garage too. The one I have is too small.

VJ Hours - I am available M-F from 10am - 5pm PST. I will occasionaly put in some OT for a fairly good poo slinging thread or a donut.

:dead: no kidding. and i hate the fact that they don't give you bags. but the savings are well worth it!

They sell these really nice reusable bags now. They are huge and fit all my stuff. I think it was like $2 for two very sturdy bags.

Interesting, I didn't see that. I'll have to watch for it next time.

Every time I go to Costco, it freakin rains when I'm putting stuff in my car. Every time!

Well technically yes. We have a magic jack which costs us $20 a year for the house. We don't pay for calls to Jordan at all. His family has a magic jack too, so that is an expense we cut out a long time ago. I would say one big expense for us is cigarettes but that isn't gonna change. Food is a big expense, trying to figure out how to shop more efficently. The next biggest expense is car payment/insurance. We have 2 car payments and my insurance skyrocketed when I added him to my policy.

JP,

What is a magic jack?

We haven't cut back on anything yet, but it does seem like we continually run out of money these days! I suppose I should start looking at where things could be cut back...

I filled up on Saturday (I'm checking gasbuddy.com a lot) and best price around was @ Sam's Club (the equivalent of Costco elsewhere). It was 3.82. I usually go there every couple weeks anyway, so I try to fill up then and go as early in the am as I can.

As for phones, I've really been contemplating losing the home phone cuz we rarely use it anyway. Only problem is that I have my DSL throught the same co (ATT) *and* DirectTv which requires a phone line to get the guides and PPV on tv. I need to call about it.

JP, we've been contemplating the Magic Jack. Do you like it? Think it's worth it & reliable? We've talked about getting one also to bring to his family in Maroc next trip.

JP,

What is a magic jack?

It's this small device you place in one of the USB connectors on the PC. You then attach the phone to it and you have a US phone number and are able to make calls throughout the US. I bought mine after Gary posted it in OT. We love it, the only draw back is the PC has to be for it to work, but we never turn our PC off so it's not a big deal for us. www.magicjack.com

We love it. We used to have vonage before, one for us and one for his family. That cost us $60 a month. The magic jack is very similar to vonage, only drawback is the PC has to be on for it to work.
