So my wife is off in philly with one of her friends enjoying the weekend. So its a good time to clean (yes I'm a clean freak) Came to one cupboard and there sits a big tin of TIM HORTONS ground coffee!! I have had it since I first arrived in the USA--DEC 2004!! And to be honest, the canned stuff (at least to me) doesnt taste very well. So I did the unthinkable--I threw it out!! Now I feel soo bad,lol

There, there, it's OK. Of course, I can say that because I don't drink coffee.

I miss chunky chicken salad on whole wheat with cream of wild mushroom soup. :(

Had that this morning!

And Flames....

FOR SHAMMMMMMMMMMEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE. I already had two iced caps today

"...My hair's mostly wind,

My eyes filled with grit

My skin's white then brown

My lips chapped and split

I've lain on the prairie and heard grasses sigh

I've stared at the vast open bowl of the sky

I've seen all the castles and faces in clouds

My home is the prairie and for that I am proud…

If You're not from the Prairie, you can't know my soul

You don't know our blizzards; you've not fought our cold

You can't know my mind, nor ever my heart

Unless deep within you there's somehow a part…

A part of these things that I've said that I know,

The wind, sky and earth, the storms and the snow.

Best say that you have - and then we'll be one,

For we will have shared that same blazing sun." - David Bouchard

what its true.. I heard they ship them in frozen....

they used to be so good...

As a former worker, I can tell you this is true..they're 1/2 baked and flash frozen, shipped to the stores where they bake them in a little oven that bakes them in about 2 mins per 12 donuts...I don't find they are as good as they used to be either. When I first started working there *7 or 8 years ago*, we were a 'bake' store...we made the donuts for all the stores in the area. The homemade ones were SO much better...but...fattier and physically harder to make. One of our bakers had to have back surgery :S

All right, since I'm an honorary Canadian I have to ask...what is Tim's? And should I buy some on Wednesday when I go to Vancouver?

Yes! If only to say you've had it and you hated/loved it.

Not all of them. Isn't it just the mall and gas station ones which don't have the fryers? There are still lots of stores that make their own. My cousin owns six of them.

OMG...I'm sitting here, freaking out to Bo on the phone that I need to find a decent cup of coffee in Raleigh, and you threw out the Tims..*passes out*

When I drove to Maine to get Bo back in March, I stopped at the US Tims...I swear, everything is bigger..their lg is our extra large, and their donuts tasted better!

I wonder if I could make the money back opening one up in NC? lol

I worked there for 4 years...woo don't miss that, but I just couldnt give up the coffee..

Bo thinks I overreact when i talk about Tims and how much I'm gonna miss it, now I can show him just how many people agree with me!

<3 Jen

I have been to a few of the RI stores, and they do not taste the same. And for hot coffee they have no XL, just a large, which is the same as canada's XL. Its sort of a crappy value as Dunkins XL is much larger than Timmy's large, and they are about the same price. The one Timmy's in Newport is close to a Starbucks and a Dunkin. In the mornings I have witnessed huge line ups at the dunkins drive thru, and the Timmys is vacant!! I'm probably heading back to RI in Mid Aug, and I wont even bother stopping at Tims.

And I did smell the coffee prior to throwing it out, and it didnt smell fresh!

Canadians Visiting the USA while undergoing the visa process, my free advice:

1) Always tell the TRUTH. never lie to the POE officer

2) Be confident in ur replies

3) keep ur response short and to the point, don't tell ur life story!!

4) look the POE officer in the eye when speaking to them. They are looking for people lieing and have been trained to find them!

5) Pack light! No job resumes with you

6) Bring ties to Canada (letter from employer when ur expected back at work, lease, etc etc)

7) Always be polite, being rude isn't going to get ya anywhere, and could make things worse!!

8) Have a plan in case u do get denied (be polite) It wont harm ur visa application if ur denied, that is if ur polite and didn't lie! Refer to #1

I have been to a lot of Tim Hortons and the donuts all tasted different then they used to..

Tim Hortons sued by franchisees over frozen doughnuts

The claim alleges that around 2001 and 2002, Tim Hortons moved to an "Always Fresh" system. It built a manufacturing plant in Brantford, Ont. with an Irish company to produce Timbits and doughnuts. They are baked and then frozen, known as par-baked, and shipped to Tim Hortons stores in North America, where they are then microwaved prior to sale. Selected distributors provide other goods, such as pastries.

The claim alleges that in 2002, franchisees were required to ditch their baking equipment and purchase freezers and microwave equipment to complete the Always Fresh conversion.

Franchisees say they were told the cost of doughnuts would jump from nine cents to 12, but that sales would also increase. However, they claim the true cost is closer to 20 cent because of "the inflated price at which the Brantford plant sells the frozen product to the franchisees." They claim the cost of other baked goods has also increased.

The claim alleges that franchisees were forced to invest $35,000 to $50,000 to complete the conversion, and while they have "suffered a loss in profit,"

Tim Hortons has "experienced an increase in profits as a result of the Always Fresh conversion." They allege that as part owner of the Brantford plant, Tim Hortons earns a "profit on all frozen product and supplies, which are sold to the franchisees at a marked-up price."

I didn't know this but did you know that back in 1995 Tim Hortons was bought by Wendy's International Inc., which is an American company... :o

I did read that. Anyway, I do like their doughnuts and sandwiches - my fav - turkey/bacon club

Cruller is my doughnut of choice, but I have also never met a doughnut I didn't like.

Oh and now that we know you actually opened the can Flames
