This is pretty cool - no more cans or recycling. It doesn't use any electricity...just a CO2 cartridge on the back. :)

We had one of those back in the 70's - it seemed like a good idea but I don't remember it being all that successful. Maybe they are better now?

Sodastream!

Every home in the UK had one in the 70/80s. You'd buy the syrup and add it to water which you then carbonised. They went out of fashion after a while, although I think Sodastream is still going - I checked out their UK website just now, briefly.

Interesting. I'm thinking it will make a comeback as a way to reduce ones carbon footprint. Canned and bottle sodas are a huge contributor.

The syrups were pretty poor though, which is why it really was just a fad. If they've improved then maybe it'll take off again. Getting the cylinders was a pain in the butt though, iirc.

Agreed with the syrups - they were #######. I don't remember the cylinders being hard to find, got them in Boots, but they were sort of expensive if I remember right.

Maybe it was the cost then. I can't remember the details - I was only 12 or something like that! :P

I was thinking the same thing. Why waste time with sugar water when beer is available? It's a no brainer. ;)

"The fact that we are here today to debate raising America’s debt limit is a sign of leadership failure. It is a sign that the U.S. Government can’t pay its own bills. That's what I was thinking. You wouldn't be limited to just using whatever syrupy ####### they sell - you can make anything you want. I did notice in the demo that they add the syrup after they carbonate the water....I was just wondering why they did it in that order?

I don't think the order would matter that much.
