Hi everyone,

I'm new to the site and just thought i'd introduce myself, and say hi.

I can't tell you how releived i am to have found this forum, It has lifted my spirits sooo much, I really am alot more relaxed since reading just a couple of your stories. :)

I am From Ireland, My boy is in the US, I'm only back in dublin about 3 weeks, and i spend every second i have trying to find ways to make things go faster.

We were told yesterday (and correct me if this is wrong) That if he were to come here and get married here in dublin, that if we then apply for our papers and i go back with him, it will take a shorter ammount of time??

I'm willing to try anything to make it so we dont have to wait forever to see each other, Obviously we want to do things properly and with in the law. I want to spend the rest of my life there. :star:

Its all such a scary process. I am terrified right now.

Welcome :) You've found a great resource that will serve you well.

I believe what you are talking about is DCF (Direct Consular Filing). It used to be possible to marry in another country and apply for a visa for the non-US spouse but new laws (adam walsh act enacted last year) 'usually' requires that the USC resides in said country for at least 6 months on a valid visa first before you can start the process. Yeah... bummer.

Your quickest option is probably going to be K1.

hey guys, thank you for the welcome, AND the helpful advice

Yeah over here you have to give the registrar at least 3 months notice if you want to get married in a civil ceremony, if the K1 is gonna take approx 3 months i think i'm better waiting i guess.

its usually 3 months right??

From start to finish it will probably take between 6-9 months, depending on your Service Centre.

Right now the approximate wait for a K1 petition to be approved through the USCIS in Vermont is about 3+ months. California is longer.

After your approval in the US, your petition is sent to the Consulate in Dublin. Every Consulate is different in how long the interview stage of the process takes so it's best to check with others to find out how long that part of the jouney will be for you. Some take weeks...others take months.

How long it takes to have your civil ceremony in Dublin matters little in the way of immigration really. It's a whole new set of rules when it comes to getting a visa. ;)

To be eligible to file in Dublin, you must be a resident of *their*

district:

http://dublin.usembassy.gov/filing_the_i130.html

U.S. citizens who have been resident in the Republic of Ireland who wish

to sponsor an immediate relative can file the I-130 petition at the

Embassy. Both the U.S. citizen petitioner and the beneficiary (the

alien spouse) must have maintained continuous residency in our consular

district (the Republic of Ireland) for a minimim of the preceding six

months in order to demonstrate principal residence. Appropriate

evidence that the petitioner and the beneficiary have permission to

reside in the Republic of Ireland must be provided.

wow thank you,

although the thoughts of this going on for up to 9 months is not what i was wanting to hear, I guess its reality. And i think the K1 is the best way to go.

but i'm still hopeful that we can get this done faster, trying to keep positive is what i'm going to do :)

again, you have helped me more in these few hours that i have been on here, than the past couple of weeks actually talking to ''officials'' haha/

thank you <3 :star:

K-1 would probably be the best route... haven't read the other posts, so I don't know if someone has suggested it already. Welcome to Visa Journey!! :energy::goofy:
