There was also A Midsummer Night's Dream and several others. However, I wouldn't consider any of the actors to have bard status, so unless Uncle Willy was in the movie himself..... no bards. :P

Lady, people aren't chocolates. Do you know what they are mostly? Bastards. ####### coated bastards with ####### filling. But I don't find them half as annoying as I find naive bobble-headed optimists who walk around vomiting sunshine.

Steve - are you talking about the one in the Howard Hughes center? The movie theater at the Grove doesn't have booze. They do sell about every form of candy known to man, however.

maybe they just do it for special events. we went to a dinner/movie thing there once and they had wine and stuff. wasn't sure about other times.

If the whole family goes to the movies, by the time we buy the tickets and food and drinks, we're usually pushing $60-$70 just to go to a movie! So yes, I find my biggest purse, we hit the gas station before we go, get our sodas, candy and whatever, then we'll get a big tub of popcorn at the theatre. :D

Whereas Mags and I wait a few months, then buy the movie on DVD for the cost of 2 movie tickets. Microwave popcorn is cheap. A bottle of Propel or a Diet Dew, and I'm much happier than I would be at a cinema. Only one loud annoying kid to deal with here, rather than 20. Well.....and Mags. :P

Neil is the same way. He hates going to the movies and would rather wait for it to come out to rent or buy.

I found it....The Bridge - Cinema de lux. Our company took us there for the opening of Transformers. Very plush. I think you'd like it. :)

When I used to take my kids i would go prepared with an extra large bag and buy before entered the theatre..

That's some good info Steve!

Too bad they don't do more arthouse stuff (by the looks of it) because I see most major releases for free through work. I really want to see the new Gonzo doc on HST but don't want to trek to Sunset, why can't they show it there?

I have never seen it. Even if they offered free booze, I have to be doing something else at the Grove before suffering that parking situation just to see a movie.

I think going to the movies is way overrated for the price. I haven't been in 4 years now and haven't seen anything previewed yet to lure me back.

the theater we go to it costs about 3 something for a matinee and about 6 something for a night movie showing...

and then you can get a large drink and popcorn for like 10 bucks which you can refill once.... my hubby and I always share...

so it costs about half as much as it would going to AMC or Edwards....

there are some movies that must be seen in the theater, like the new Batman movie....

I guess it might be different if a person had a nice set up at home with a big screen etc....

My husband loves to go to movies and he's gotten me hooked. We go a few times a month. We don't usually go prepared with food and drinks since we tend to decide last minute we're going - but we'd be all for brining our own food/drinks. Instead, when our movie is over we stay for another one...this way we know we're getting our money's worth :innocent: ... ...

 Joel and I much prefer this method. Cheaper, easier, more comfy, and I like the comfort of my own bathroom! There are some good microwave popcorn brands out there that are just as tasty as movie theater popcorn too.

...and another thing! During the summer, our local movie cinema house shows kids movies for free starting at 10am. Sounds good, yes? To actually get to SEE the movie your kid wants, you have to get there somewhere around 8:45 or 9:00am, stand in line, and hope you're close enough to the door to make it inside in time to get a seat. It's insane! The minute the doors are opened people pour in and some literally RUN to the theater. I've tried this twice...never again. My daughter wanted to see Alvin and the Chipmunks a few weeks ago...within 10 MINUTES of the doors opening, that particular theater was full. The problem was, I was too far back in the line to make inside in time to secure a seat.

I've decided to just buy the bloody movies she wants to see and we'll watch them at home as many times as we want rather than deal with the masses.

It's fine. But make sure you carry a big pocketbook to hide it in because sometimes they complain. They want you to buy the overpriced snacks and sodas in the theatre instead.

I take a cooler. I say I'm an on-call paramedic and have a liver in there in case a little kiddie needs an emergency transplant. As a bonus, it means I can keep my phone on, too.

I buy there because the popcorn just tastes different in a theater and I always get a blue slushy drink with it. I only go when it's a really good movie that I want to see on the big screen though, which hasn't happened in about a year.
