I don't see how you would have problems visiting your fiance...I have been in different levels of debt & always went overseas with no problem.

Hi Leo,

It looks like you are in a real pickle. If I were you, the first thing I would do is deal with my money problems. Here is why: If you are bankrupt how can you support your fiance? If you are bankrupt, how can you pay for your trip out of the country?

The question about not being able to return to the US is ridiculous. A citizen can always get back in to the US. Just show them your passport.

Best of luck

Somehow you do need to take care of your money problems. But they have nothing to do with travel or a visa petition.

I agree. A US citizen can always re-enter regardless of finances.

Yea, I'm just not understanding why that would be an issue. They're not going to kick you out of the country because you are in debt. America, the country itself, is in debt. I have never heard of someone not being allowed to return home because they are in debt. Also, the banks have no say whatsoever as to who can and cannot emigrate into the US, enter the US, re-enter the US, etc. Not sure why you would believe this.

Also, squaring away your debt is definitely important, but that has nothing to do with traveling out of the US. However, IF you filed for a K-1, you would need a co-sponsor if you are bankrupt.

i went bankrupt in 2005 because of a now ex wife. filling bankruptcy doesn't t necessarily mean you cant support your family. as long as you are above the poverty line, having a bankruptcy in your credit report doesn't matter to the USCIS, all they care about is that the beneficiary will not become a public charge
