I think some people would prefer it to the Star Spangled Banner because Proud to be an American was written as an actual song as opposed to the Star Spangled Banner, a piece of poetry never meant to be sung.

My husband asked me the other day if country music was the folk music of America. Well, is it?

IMO, the folk music of America was before our current country music. Even if you hear old civil war songs(I have friends who know them), they sound more like Irish pub songs or something hehe. But some does sound like country music. Dueling Banjos for example. But I think of that stuff different than country music. Think about "I've been working on the railroad" but these sound very country "Oh Susanna, oh don't you cry for me" "She'll be comin around the MT when she comes"....we recently bought a kids' music CD and I didn't realize how many old US songs are now considered kids' songs, and they are very country-ish sounding. "I wish I was in Dixie, hurray hurray" is even on there. LOL and It's pretty catchy I must admit. "Jimmy crack corn and I don't care, my masters gone away"....a lot of crazy sounding songs. And it's a Disney CD of supposedly classic kids songs.

That song makes me wanna puke. But then all sappy love songs make me wanna hurl. And a love song for a country...

People died for my country too, but I don't stand for Irish rebel songs apart from our national anthem.

I love you Poiteen! I, too, loathe that song! And definitley would not stand up when its being sung.

Peace to All creatures great and small............................................

But when we turn to the Hebrew literature, we do not find such jokes about the donkey. Rather the animal is known for its strength and its loyalty to its master (Genesis 49:14; Numbers 22:30).

I guess sometimes music just makes you want to stand up and sing along. Being Cdn I get up and sing along to

Hey - no one is going to believe it if the lyrics to one of our songs had the line "God Bless Canada" when we spend 8 months a year in the 7th ring of hell (aka winter)
