I don't know how I would react.. but I had an Islamic wedding. We had a contract of a different sorts but we both agreed on what we would bring to the marriage and what we wouldn't. Almost like a prenup but without the expectations of an end.

I agree prenuptial agreements may mean the other person is not willing to divide all their inheritance or properties they own with you, If things end up disolving in a divorce eventually. I think he or she is planning for the worst and protecting their wealth by having the other person sign a prenutial.

When I enter into a marriage, I plan on being with that person the rest of my life. I can't see preparing for it to end.

Hello everyone! I am just thinking how would you react if your fiance ask you to sign a pre-nuptial agreement?

I maybe old fashion on this. My opinion is that a pre-nuptial assumes the marriage will faulter. If that's the case, why get married? If the marriage is purely for physical gratification, there's less expensive alternatives than marriage. Having a pre-nup is almost like an excuse for not having to commit on a marriage.... if one doesn't work hard enough on the relationship, one can always go back as before.

Then again, it's a personal choice. Who am I to say what people do other than my own.

Prenuptials are getting pretty common nowadays. But regardless of it's popularity I know it takes away the feeling of being special. I would not jump to conclusions that he's not planning on your relationship to last... What conditions are he asking for anyway? Maybe he had a bad relationship experience in the past and he just wants to protect himself. Maybe he's also looking for a sign of assurance that you're not committing to him just to get his money (btw, is he rich?).

Relationships are different for each couple. It is important that you TRUST each other. If ever you do decide to agree to sign a prenup, make sure that you get the opinion of a lawyer, and that the conditions provide security for you as well.

Good luck!

Hello everyone! I am just thinking how would you react if your fiance ask you to sign a pre-nuptial agreement?

Why does it require a reaction? strange that some might get upset or write here that "he does not love you" #######.

If you are upset that he asks, as yourself why are you marrying him. Hoping to get a piece?

If you are not hoping to get divorced with half of his money, why would anyone be upset?

I know I would be cautious if I would suggest it and she would get upset or refuse..

Well! I am a woman and would make a pre-nup myself. It's for peace of mind that protection is there and the money is not gonna be abused. Does that make me love him less? No, I would help him out if I see that he helps himself. Separation of what is his and what is yours keeps everything cool. It gives love more meaning and value. Let it stand the test of time. Follow him and you may be surprised! (L)

honestly me and my fiance are planning to draw up a prenuptial agreement..its not about the money but its for our own protection too..we both dont want to go through the pain of alimony..i know that some people might find it stupid but its a personal choice between couples..it doesnt mean that we dont love each other and its not final yet..and if we really love each other and not planning to divorce then why worry about it..

We have a prenup also and I don't understand the "he/she thinks it won't last" argument at all. We had it set up fair for either one of us, and ever since it's sitting somewhere in a drawer and the only time I think about it is when there is an outrage about the topic in VJ!

Sometimes I think people are of the opinion that a prenup always means "I get all, you get nothing", which is BS. Talk to an attorney or do some research on the topic and you'll find out that there are many ways to make it a fair deal for both parties.

I have to admit that is isn't something that should be brought up like, three days before the wedding or so. It should be discussed well ahead of time, so both parties can think about it and decide what it should look like.

And yes, if one partner had a bad experience with a cheating wife or husband running away with 50% of the money he/she had not even earned and worked for herself, I fully understand that they insist on a prenup.

Conditional Permanent Resident since September 20, 2006

Conditions removed February 23, 2009
